Birmingham celebrated Women’s History Month with a special luncheon hosted by Momentum Leaders, recognizing four outstanding local women as the 2025 Women of Impact. The event, which took place last week, highlighted the contributions that honorees Bobby Bradley, Judge Agnes Chappell, Dr. Connie Hill, and Dr. Cameron Vowell have made to the community.

Honorees and Their Contributions

  • Bobby Bradley is recognized as a pioneering entrepreneur and philanthropist. She co-founded Computer Systems Technology (CST), a firm serving clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. Additionally, she is a co-founder of the Village of Promise, a nonprofit focused on breaking the cycle of generational poverty in the community. Bradley has held leadership positions on various boards and was honored with the Distinguished Service Award from the Huntsville and Madison County Chamber of Commerce.
  • Judge Agnes Chappell, with over 45 years in the legal field, has made significant strides in advocating for justice and equality. She played a vital role in founding Birmingham’s first Domestic Violence Court and leads initiatives focused on community empowerment, including the Goals and Justice Tour and HaitiSURGE. Her contributions were recognized with the 2023 Community Trailblazer Award from the NAACP Metro Birmingham.
  • Dr. Connie Hill serves as the CEO of Girls Inc. of Central Alabama, where she has dedicated her life to empowering young women through mentorship and innovative programming. She helped establish Alabama’s first Safe Haven shelter for mentally ill homeless women, and has taken on leadership roles in various organizations, including One Roof and the Women’s Foundation of Alabama.
  • Dr. Cameron Vowell is an accomplished environmental scientist dedicated to promoting women’s leadership in the environmental sector. She has been influential in initiatives including the Clean Air Act and co-founded the Women’s Foundation of Alabama. Her involvement in organizations such as the Alabama Environmental Management Commission and the Freshwater Land Trust underscores her commitment to sustainable practices and community health.

Community Impact and Future Initiatives

The recognition of these four Women of Impact exemplifies the mission of Momentum Leaders, which seeks to inspire women to lead with confidence and influence. Their achievements reflect wider trends in women’s leadership and empowerment, especially within sectors such as law, social services, and environmental advocacy.

In addition to the luncheon, Momentum Leaders is planning Impact Day, scheduled for March 13, 2025, in Birmingham, with expectations of attracting over 1,000 attendees. This event will feature motivational speakers, workshops, and the Momentum Woman of Impact Award to further support and enhance the professional growth of women. Keynote speaker Alyson Van Hooser and workshop facilitator Tonya Hill Mitchell will provide attendees with essential tools for leadership development.

Momentum Leaders is focused on empowering women across Alabama, aiming to create a more robust support network for female professionals. The impact of such initiatives can potentially lead to policies that encourage women’s participation in leadership roles, not only enhancing workplace diversity but also contributing to economic growth in the community.

As Birmingham embarks on this celebration of Women’s History Month, the voices and achievements of local women continue to shape the socio-economic landscape of the region, paving the way for future generations of women leaders.
