Blank Space Bham debuts vibrant new mural near City Walk

If you’ve been meandering near the Uptown district recently, an artistic evolution is likely to have caught your eye – a resplendent new mural gracing the side of the Sheraton Hotel adjacent to City Walk BHAM. The creative expertise behind this vibrant new installation is none other than locally celebrated muralist and Blank Space Bham founder, Meghan McCollum.

Birmingham’s Newest Artistic Beacon

Stretching out over a vast 3,200 square feet, this mural is an undeniable feast for the eyes. Its conception began back in 2023 when Blank Space Bham was involved in another project near City Walk BHAM. Intrigued by a block of doors adjacent to the under-renovation Sheraton Hotel lobby that was “screaming for a mural,” the city invited McCollum to bring her vision to the bare space. According to Toni Dennis, Director of Public Relations + Community Partnerships at City Walk BHAM, the outcome has far exceeded their hopes, celebrating its existence as a vibrant highlight of the entire BJCC campus.

Visitors who appreciate the mural in person can enjoy an immersive experience due to the sheer scope and vivacity of the artwork. However, the mural’s emotional depth is what makes it stand out even more.

Heartfelt Tribute in Infinite Love

Enjoying almost complete creative freedom, McCollum decided to pay a heartfelt tribute to her mother through this artwork. She explains that the motivation and courage her mother instilled in her led to her current successful career as a muralist. The final product, titled “Infinite Love,” is studded with specific elements and symbols in honor of her mother. Butterflies, which represent Meghan and her sisters, symbolize “her butterflies”, while the tulips signify the commonly shared love for gardening between her and her mother. Despite the large canvas, the mural was finished in a mere fortnight, showcasing the dedication and efficiency of Blank Space Bham.

Blank Space Bham’s Iconic Murals Around the City

Indeed, Blank Space Bham has developed quite a reputation for themselves. They are the creative powerhouses behind myriad iconic murals festooning various parts of Birmingham. From murals that salute Alabama’s illustrious women to the awe-inspiring Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth mural in downtown Birmingham, Blank Space Bham is known for their inspired artworks that continue to brighten up Birmingham realms and fuel up civic pride.

This new mural near City Walk is yet another testament to their profound talent and dynamic creative energy. Here’s to witnessing more of such transformative art from Blank Space Bham!
