Last Weekend’s Showcase of Brilliance

As we look forward to this weekend, let’s take a moment to reflect on UAB’s impressive performance from last weekend. At the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Atlanta, ten athletes achieved personal bests, demonstrating just how much talent and hard work is flowing through this program. UAB proudly secured 13 top-10 finishes and clinched victories in two events: the 400m Hurdles and the Steeplechase. What an incredible way to build momentum heading into the Spring Invite!

This weekend, 21 teams will converge in Birmingham, including familiar foes like Jacksonville State, Alabama State, and Arkansas State. Each competitor will be vying for glory and a podium finish. 200-meter event, and Lia Castillo made her mark with a solid third place in the 1500 meter race. Not to be outdone, Kat Duren sprinted her way to victory in the 100 meter race, while her teammates Taylor Washington and Jasmine Dereje secured fifth and seventh places, respectively, showing the depth of talent on the team.

Long Jump and Javelin Highlights

Corinne Ball’s victory in the Long Jump was a highlight of last year’s event, and Mya McDanal’s performance, finishing second in the Javelin Throw, showcased the strength of UAB’s field athletes.
