Exciting changes could be on the horizon for the Tattersall Park area, but not everyone is on board with the plans. The Hoover Planning and Zoning Commission recently received a proposal from Ebsco Industries to develop over 300 multi-family residential units as part of a mixed-use community. However, after receiving intense feedback from residents, the proposal will not be evaluated during the upcoming meeting on November 12, 2024, as originally planned. Instead, the company has requested a continuance, and the matter is now slated for discussion at the December 9 meeting.
So, what exactly does this proposal entail? According to the details presented last month, the development would not only include up to 170 multi-family housing units for seniors but also up to 137.5 additional multi-family units, a hotel with 125 rooms, and a generous 45,000 square feet of climate-controlled commercial space. This would encompass everything from retail shops to restaurants, all sitting on 33 acres of undeveloped land nestled between the Publix Supermarket and Pet Paradise facility
However, it seems that many Hoover residents aren’t enthusiastic about these changes. In fact, a petition against this mixed-use plan has garnered the signatures of over 2,200 people. Many residents are particularly concerned about the proposed multi-family residential units, expressing a strong preference to keep the area strictly commercial, just as it is currently zoned.
Ashley Lovell, a local Greystone resident and a notable voice in the opposition group, has taken steps to inform the community about the potential impacts of this development. During a meeting held by CR-Endeavors, formerly known as Corporate Realty, on November 4, residents had the chance to ask questions and voice their worries. Lovell explained that she and her fellow neighbors are actively working to meet with the developers. They hope to see a revised plan that addresses their concerns before the topic returns to the zoning board next month.
The goal of Ebsco Industries and CR-Endeavors is to make the Tattersall Park project a reality, and the development team is committed to listening to community feedback. David Davis, a representative from Ebsco, reassured residents that their input is important and aims to tweak the original proposal. The developers are hoping that with modifications, they can create a plan that meets both community desires and their vision for a vibrant village center.
As the December 9 meeting looms closer, many residents will be on high alert, waiting to see if the developers can turn their plans into something the community can embrace. With a heightened interest and continued discussions, it’s clear that the future of Tattersall Park remains an important topic for the residents of Hoover. Will the community’s voice be heard? Only time will tell during the upcoming planning commission meeting.
As we approach the crucial meeting, residents and supporters of the proposal alike will be watching closely to see how both sides can come together to create a thriving community space in Hoover. The next chapter in the Tattersall Park development saga is just around the corner!
