Sponsor Our ArticlesSummer has finally arrived! The local North Shelby and Mt Laurel libraries warmly welcome the community as they host their Summer Reading Programs, inviting young avid readers to a special series of events commencing in late May.
The pleasant note of the school bell signals summer, unleashing bringers of free time and relaxation. Alongside the warmth of the sunny season, registration windows for the Summer Reading Programs have swung open at both the North Shelby Library and Mt Laurel Library. Intending participants can officially register their names through the libraries’ website.
The kick-off festivities begin Friday, May 31 from 4-6 p.m. at the Mt Laurel library, promising to deliver an exciting start to the reading program. The event includes a grand cake-cutting ceremony, refreshing root beer floats, creative crafts sessions, and much more.
The North Shelby Library, too, unveils its Summer Reading Kickoff titled “Nature On Wheels” on Saturday, June 1 at 11 a.m. The event is all set to take its attendees on a virtual tour of Alabama’s animal kingdom along with snack-time and door prize distribution.
Beyond the introductory gatherings, the libraries have a fascinating line-up of events pencilled in their calendar all summer long. Children can look forward to an engaging mix of reading sessions, interactive physical activities, and enrichment programs carefully designed to make learning fun and interesting!
Though the libraries will host many shared events, they also plan to host exclusive events to cater to the unique interests of their respective communities.
The Mt Laurel Library shifts gears from enjoying root beer floats to stimulating young minds, as they carve out a space for intricate and fun craft sessions. The attendees will enjoy the chance to develop their creativity and fine motor skills, whilst also enjoying a sociable hour with fellow participants.
The North Shelby Library houses a perfect amalgamation of learning with fun. With their focus on “Nature On Wheels”, there will be lessons about the rich biodiversity of Alabama. Besides, the library aims to strike a balance between academic learning and fun through a series of activities, including storytime, crafts and games to keep children engaged.
The local community can now enroll their children in these summer reading programs to turn the sunny summer months into a treasure chest of learning, discovery and adventure. The initiative focuses not only on encouraging reading habits in children, but also ensures an all-rounded approach to holistic learning.
In the heart of these activities and games, the central focus will always remain inculcating the love for books amongst young learners. Let’s celebrate summer through reading, where each turn of the page unfolds a whole new world of imagination and learning!
