From Silicon Valley to Southern Hospitality: Man Shifts Base for Innovative Alabama Firm
Transforming Careers & Changing Lives
In a modern tale of career transformation and dedication to innovation, a former Silicon Valley tech mastermind, Erich Volkert moved all the way from California to settle in the heart of Alabama, Indian Springs. His decision was fueled by his wish to join the groundbreaking Birmingham-based company, Moultrie Mobile. This firm certainly knows how to incorporate an archery range, mobile hunting cameras and a lake in their business.
Meet Erich Volkert
Originally from San Jose, California, Volkert cherished the myriad technological advancements and opportunities that Silicon Valley offered. He brought extensive experience from his tenure at Amazon’s Emerging Products Group. However, he couldn’t resist the allure of Birmingham’s rich greenery, Southern hospitality and the innovative spirit of Moultrie Mobile. So, in June 2023, Volkert uprooted his life and relocated to Indian Springs. Besides his corporate commitments, he enjoys snowboarding, playing soccer, designing furniture and woodwork.
An Introduction to Moultrie Mobile
Moultrie Mobile, an innovative firm which specializes in creating hunting and outdoors products such as cellular trail cameras and connected feeders. Additionally, they have developed a comprehensive app that can aid your hunting experience and planning. Volkert, now the Vice President of Product Management at Moultrie Mobile, appreciates the strong culture and the team’s commitment to learning and growth within the company.
A Startup within a Large Scale Industry
Volkert likens Moultrie Mobile to a startup that operates within the infrastructure and funding protection of its parent company, EBSCO. This unique combination has allowed them to adopt a startup mentality, inculcate a team spirit, and enhance product development without compromising on the business stability.
Moving to Birmingham for Moultrie Mobile
Volkert is excited to explore more of Birmingham and looks forward to the Spring season and upcoming trips along the Gulf Coast. He appreciates the hospitality and welcome he has received from the locals. “It’s funny to me when people in Birmingham complain about traffic or a drought. I never considered a 25-minute drive long or three weeks without rain to be a drought.” says Volkert. “The thing I hope I never take for granted is all the trees. The other thing that stands out is Southern hospitality. People here have been welcoming, generous and polite. We really enjoy that!”
Leadership in Innovation
Despite leaving a tech haven like Silicon Valley, Volkert is quite excited about the innovative practices at Moultrie Mobile. He believes the company is constantly pushing the boundaries to create new experiences for their customers. Moultrie Mobile is also actively hiring, showing their commitment to expansion and fostering a culture of innovation.
