‘Kids Can Too’ School Supply Drive Extended Through August 2-4 Weekend
A Noble Initiative Back for Another Great Cause
In conjunction with the Barons and the local Police Department, ‘Kids Can Too’ Back to School drive has pushed their drive into the weekend, from August 2-4, collecting unused school supplies for local children who are in need. As the school season draws near, many children may not have essential supplies needed for the academic year. The drive provides these students with an opportunity to start the school year on a positive note.
How Small Donations Can Make a Big Difference
LaVanna Williams, the Community Engagement Officer with the local Police Department explained the importance of the drive. “Some kids may not have what they need for the first day of school so we collect to help them start off a better school year,” Williams said. She also emphasized the direct influence such efforts can have on communities, noting, “better students, lower crime rates.”
Giving resounds, and every little bit counts, as echoed by one of the donors, Glenda Williamson. She dropped off supplies at Regions Field Friday night and shared her hopes for the young beneficiaries of her contribution. “I just hope what little bit I brought can help them. That can be a little stressful for them at times, do I have a pen do I have a pencil? Well, we just brought pens and pencils,” Williamson revealed.
Inclement Weather Won’t Dissuade Drive
Despite severe weather forecasts for Friday, donors can bring their contributions to Regions Field throughout the weekend and, as a token of appreciation, will receive a Chick-fil-A card. With the extension of the ‘Kids Can Too’ drive, there’s more opportunity to support the youth in the community who are the future leaders of tomorrow.
