Hey there, football fans! We’re diving into all the juicy bits as we head into Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season, right here from good old San Francisco! Buckle up, as the 49ers are dealing with a heap of injury concerns, and that’s shaking up both their strategy and your fantasy lineups.
First up, let’s talk about the elephant in the room — Deebo Samuel is going to be out for a few weeks. Ouch! That’s a pretty big blow for the 49ers’ offense. They’re also missing Christian McCaffrey and rookie WR Ricky Pearsall, who’s recovering from a gunshot wound. Let’s hope he has a speedy recovery. But wait, there’s more! George Kittle just popped up on the injury report with a hamstring issue, which could further complicate things for the Niners.
So what does that mean for the 49ers’ passing game? Well, it looks like Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings are your two solid bets. Jauan Jennings isn’t just good at blocking; he has shown he can produce when he gets the chance. He’s played over 50% of the team’s snaps in six games last season and scored 10+ fantasy points in four out of those six. This week they face off against the Rams, whose secondary is ranked 24th according to PFF. Definitely consider picking Jennings up and slotting him in your lineup!
Moving on to Mike Evans, he’s having a decent start to his 11th NFL season with a 23% target share, resulting in eight catches, 103 yards, and two TDs through the first two games. But here’s the kicker: this week, he goes up against Patrick Surtain, who’s been shutting down receivers left and right. Evans runs about 70% of his routes on the outside, and considering Surtain’s performance against other star receivers, Evans could be in for a tough game.
On the flip side, the Lions have been quite generous to slot receivers, allowing over 250 yards from 22 catches in just two weeks. That’s something to keep an eye on as the Cardinals send slot receiver Greg Dortch into action this week. While I wouldn’t expect a breakout performance from him, be sure to watch how the Lions handle future threats like CeeDee Lamb in the coming weeks.
Looking over to the running backs, Brian Robinson has been solid, with him playing 59% of the Commanders’ snaps and dominating 74% of the backfield carries. Last week, he went for 136 yards on 18 touches — not too shabby! This week, he faces the Bengals, who have a rough go at tackling this season. Expect to see Robinson really thrive.
Let’s not forget about Chris Godwin, who’s sitting pretty as the top receiver in fantasy right now! He’s accumulated 200 yards and two touchdowns in two games, mostly working in the slot. You might be tempted to sell him off for something good, but unless you’re getting a top-tier player like Ja’Marr Chase, hold onto him.
Dalvin Cook reminded everyone what he’s made of last week scoring three touchdowns. Even though he played less than half of the snaps, his efficiency was through the roof. His usage is climbing, and if his trend continues, you may want to rank him as a top-10 back for the rest of the season.
As for Jerome Ford, he started strong but faced a brutal drop in usage. His fantasy value is a bit shaky now, and it could get trickier if D’Onta Foreman keeps eating into his snaps. Make sure to watch how that develops in the coming weeks.
So, folks, as we gear up for Week 3, keep these insights in mind as you set your lineups and adjust your rosters. Be smart, stay informed, and may your fantasy teams crush it this week!
