Birmingham’s Own Roy Wood Jr. Set to Host U.S. Spin-Off of BBC Show ‘Have I Got News for You’

Wood’s Next Step After “The Daily Show”

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After bidding adieu to the popular show “The Daily Show”, where he performed as a correspondent for eight years, Birmingham’s shining star and comedian, Roy Wood Jr. is all set to welcome a distinguished chapter in his career. Wood will be trying his luck by taking over as the host of the American version of the renowned BBC panel show “Have I Got News for You”.

Known to humorously probe contemporary events and discussions, the UK version of the show has been running since 1990. The American adaptation is slated to be a 10-episode limited series showcasing distinguished comedians and personalities who will be questioned about the day’s events in a humorous yet thought-provoking format.

“For far too long immigrants have been coming to America and taking black jobs, kudos to CNN and the immigrants at Hat Trick Productions for bringing a Black job to the States,” Wood said addressing his passionate support for diversity in the entertainment industry.

Wood, who has originated from Birmingham and is a frequent visitor, exited “The Daily Show” in the wake of former host Trevor Noah’s departure. His departure created a buzz that he was also being considered for the role of host.

Searching for Fresh Opportunities

During an interview on NPR’s “Morning Edition,” Wood expressed his desire to explore new opportunities and opted to exit his former role to follow that pursuit. “There’s no sense in me doing what I’ve been doing for the last eight years while concurrently trying to think of a new thing to do,” he said. “The job of correspondent, it’s not really one where you can really juggle multiple things, and I think eight years, I’ve earned the right to just take a quick break before January.”

The viewers can catch this highly anticipated show narrated by Wood from September 14. The show is scheduled to air every Saturday, adding a refreshing angle to your weekend indulgence.
