Birmingham – From September 16-20, Regions Bank in Birmingham celebrated its annual Evergreen Week, an event that highlights the dedication and commitment of the associates who contribute to the bank’s diverse landscape. This year, the celebration also showcased the unique roles that go beyond traditional banking positions, emphasizing how the company supports both its employees and the communities they serve.
Evergreen Week is akin to a homecoming, drawing associates together for a time of connection and appreciation. The company fosters an environment where employees feel like family. This year’s event allowed the bank to shine a spotlight on the diverse careers within its ranks, featuring individuals from various departments who took a moment to share their experiences.
Four associates were particularly highlighted for their non-traditional banking roles. First, there’s Ty Lollar. He joined Regions just a year and a half ago, stepping into the role of Trust Property Manager within the Natural Resource Department. Lollar’s unique position showcases how the bank embraces sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Next, we met Susan Clowdus, Vice President of Community Affairs. With an impressive 37 years at the company, starting from AmSouth before the merger in 2005, Clowdus has been instrumental in connecting Regions with community programs and initiatives, ensuring that the bank’s impact is both local and meaningful.
Carlos Hall is another integral part of the Regions team. As the Senior Vice President Area Security Manager, he transitioned from a career with the Hoover Police Department to enhance the bank’s security protocols. With over five years at Regions, Hall plays a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of the bank’s operations.
Finally, Jessica Barnett rounded out the group. A UAB graduate, she started at Regions five and a half years ago working in model risk before moving to machine learning. Barnett manages her team within data engineering, embracing the chance to innovate and develop new technologies for the bank. One of the highlights of her experience has been the Data Science Day, a unique event in which associates participate in hands-on learning exercises involving machine learning to drive race cars on a 40-foot track.
Regions Bank’s commitment to its associates is not just about recognition; it is also about providing opportunities for growth and education. Initiatives like Evergreen Week and Data Science Day illustrate the bank’s investment in not only the professional development of its employees but also in fostering a sense of community. As Barnett enthusiastically shared, “We bring a 40-foot race track into Regions to train a model to drive race cars. It gets everybody using machine learning—even people who aren’t doing it day-to-day.”
Regions Bank aims to attract talent from various fields and backgrounds, encouraging those interested in exploring unconventional roles in finance or banking to consider joining their team. The company’s dedication to its associates during Evergreen Week exemplifies a workplace culture that is rich in collaboration, innovation, and community spirit.
With the spotlight on roles outside of traditional banking, it’s clear that Regions Bank is more than just a financial institution; it’s a community that values diverse talents and contributions. Those interested in being part of this vibrant culture are encouraged to join Regions’ Talent Community, where they can explore career opportunities tailored to their skills and interests.
