Exciting New Speakeasy Pogo to Open in Birmingham, Offering a Unique Dining Experience

Exciting New Speakeasy Set to Open in Birmingham!

Birmingham is buzzing with excitement as a brand new speakeasy called Pogo is set to launch on November 22nd, nestled right below the recently unveiled Armour House restaurant! This charming new addition is located in the historic Armour & Co. Building at 2309 First Ave. N., and it’s creating a real stir in the local dining and nightlife scene.

A Peek Inside Pogo

Constructed with a nod to the building’s storied history, Pogo combines Prohibition-inspired vibes with a contemporary twist. Guests can expect stunning intimate lighting, beautiful stone archways, and a blend of industrial design elements that pay homage to the original architecture. The atmosphere is inviting and cozy, perfect for sipping handcrafted cocktails while soaking up the ambience.

The concept for the name Pogo came about quite unexpectedly during renovations when workers stumbled upon an old pogo stick hidden among the construction debris. This quirky find has now become a symbol of resilience and joy, which the owners felt perfectly captured the spirit they want to create in the speakeasy. According to their website, “Inspired by its enduring spirit and the playful memories it evoked, the speakeasy name was found.” What a fun backstory!

Step Inside

Getting to Pogo is simple! You can easily access the bar area through First Avenue, using either the stairway or the elevator. If you’re looking for an entrance that makes you feel like a true insider, you can also enter through the Morris Avenue entrance. It’s designed to be accessible and welcoming for everyone!

The Armour House Experience

Just steps above, the Armour House opened its doors on November 8th and is already generating buzz with its impressive menu. Under the guidance of Executive Chef Jeffrey Compton, the restaurant is committed to offering diners fresh, locally sourced ingredients. With a focus on high-quality ingredients and expertly prepared dishes, the menu boasts an array of enticing options, including raw bar delicacies featuring fresh oysters from coast to coast along with a sumptuous seafood tower. Meat lovers will also appreciate dishes like CAB filet mignon, braised lamb shank, and grilled king salmon.

Chef Compton describes the Armour House experience as “an invitation to savor expertly prepared dishes that celebrate the freshness of the season.” The establishment promises a sophisticated dining environment, encouraging patrons not just to eat but to immerse themselves in a culinary adventure that encompasses taste, texture, and culinary excellence.

A Rich History and Modern Revival

The Armour & Co. Building has undergone an extensive renovation, transforming it into a mixed-use space. With commercial retail on the first floor and apartments on the upper levels, the revitalization has breathed new life into this historic site. The Birmingham City Council even approved incentives up to $450,000 over five years to support this vision.

This exciting development isn’t just about new dining options; it’s a chance to enjoy a lively outing in a venue that celebrates history while embracing modernity. With Pogo and Armour House both now open, Birmingham residents and visitors alike have a fresh reason to explore the culinary scene.

So, mark your calendars for November 22nd and get ready to discover the delightful charm of Pogo. It’s not just a cocktail lounge; it’s a rendezvous with elegance and a sprinkle of whimsical joy!
