New Restaurant Miss Astrid's Tavern Opens in Vestavia Hills with a Southern Twist

New Dining Gem Opens in Vestavia Hills

Exciting news for food lovers in Vestavia Hills! The buzz around town is all about Miss Astrid’s Tavern, a brand-new restaurant and bar that officially opens its doors today in the charming Cahaba Heights community. Nestled behind Resultz Day Salon at 3160 Cahaba River Road, this vibrant eatery aims to serve up a delightful mix of chef-driven Southern cuisine.

A Bit of History

You might recognize this spot as it was previously home to The Fig, a beloved neighborhood restaurant that had to close its doors this summer. But fear not! Jessica Armstrong, the brainy executive chef of Miss Astrid’s Tavern and culinary magician, has had her eye on this location for years. “When the space became available, I just knew I had to jump on it,” she said with zest. Partnering with Denise Boley, the owner of the nearby salon, Armstrong is thrilled to finally bring her food dream to life.

Great Food Awaits

As the culinary lead, Armstrong is already sharing her excitement about the menu. “I’ve been doing this since I was 14 years old, and now I’m 42, so I have a lot of experience,” she explained, beaming with pride. Expect sumptuous dishes like a Southern pork roulade, made with apple juice-brined pork loin, collard greens, and wrapped in delicious candied bacon. There’s also a mouth-watering fried chicken sandwich that comes with a twist, featuring pickled jalapeños, rutabaga, and green apple slaw.

Armstrong emphasized that her menu is all about Southern comfort food with a touch of elegance, “I like to make people’s bellies happy!” she exclaimed, promising plenty of options that are tasty and nourishing. Not to be missed, lunch will offer a meat and three choice, signature sandwiches, and build-your-own salads, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

Hours to Savor

Visiting today? You can pop in for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or brunch on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feel free to mark your calendars as regular lunch and brunch hours kick in next week: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. from Tuesday to Friday, and 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

And that’s not all! Starting on December 13, Miss Astrid’s Tavern will introduce dinner service from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. So, save room for some evening surprises!

A Tribute to a Special Woman

Oh, and did we mention the restaurant’s name? It’s a heartfelt nod to Astrid Smyer, the late mother of one of the building’s owners, making the place even more meaningful for the community. It’s wonderful to see this tribute brightened by a new gathering spot!

Plan Your Visit

Ready for a taste of Miss Astrid’s Tavern? You can find it at 3160 Cahaba Heights Road, and for those planning to visit, be sure to enter the parking lot via Pipe Line Road while keeping the front lot for Resultz Day Salon’s customers.
