Chris South, the creative mind behind this one-of-a-kind mobile lounge, started The Lion’s Den in 2022 with a dream and a $500 bid on an old school bus he spotted on eBay. “I couldn’t believe it, but I won the bid,” Chris recalls with a chuckle. From there, he reached out to his diesel mechanic cousin, and together they embarked on a road trip to Mobile, Alabama, to pick up the bus.
“Everyone I spoke to about my idea couldn’t quite visualize it,” South said, but he encouraged them to “trust the process.” With determination and a clear vision, he turned that dusty old bus into the bustling lounge we see today. It took less than a year for Chris to renovate, transform, and bring his vision to life.
A Labor of Love
South’s dedication is evident in every detail of The Lion’s Den. He collaborated with multiple artisans: a painter for the ceiling, a wrapper for the exterior, and a sound specialist for an astonishing audio experience. “I made sure to invest my time and energy into every piece,” South shares. “I even installed the bar myself at the back of the bus!”
This mobile party bus can accommodate about 15 guests, and it’s equipped with everything one could hope for—a fun driver, a lively host, and a fully stocked bar for those who want to BYOB (Bring Your Own Beverages). For those who prefer to nibble while they mingle, The Lion’s Den offers catering options from local favorites, including A-Train Express and Simone’s ATL Kitchen.
Bringing the Party to You
Chris, 45, has crafted a business model that’s all about flexibility. “I usually do events and ride around the city,” he mentions, but customers can also book The Lion’s Den to set up at their homes. Whether it’s a cozy get-together, a lively birthday bash, or a wedding celebration, it’s the perfect way to enjoy a unique outing. With all the fun available, guests can light up some cigars, enjoy flavors of hookah, and indulge in delicious food—talk about a memorable night!
From Son to Businessman
South attributes much of his knowledge and skills to his father, Samuel South. “He always taught me to learn multiple skills because you never know what might happen,” recalls Chris, illustrating the wise lessons of his childhood. “Whenever he was working on something, whether it was a house or a car, I was right there with him, helping and picking up the trade.”
This hands-on experience laid the foundation for Chris becoming an all-around handyman. Whether it’s painting walls, putting in floors, or building furniture, he’s got the skills to tackle just about anything, embodying the mantra of “always take care of number one, that’s you.”
