Get ready, Birmingham! The day that many have been waiting for has finally arrived! Lag’s Eatery, the iconic breakfast and lunch destination, is set to throw open its doors once more on November 20, 2024. Yes, you heard it right! After a closure that lasted a decade and a half, the brand new Lag’s is ready to welcome back fans at its new location at 4350 Third Court South, nestled between the bustling Avondale and Crestwood areas.
It’s hard not to feel a wave of nostalgia sweep over the memories of sharing pancakes, eggs, and laughs in that quaint spot back in the day. Lag’s first opened its doors in the 1970s under the passionate vision of Anthony “Lag” Gagliano, who aimed to create a cozy haven for people to meet, greet, and eat. The eatery, located on Broadway Street in Homewood, quickly became a cherished meeting place for the locals.
However, in 2009, after a long run under the direction of Gerard DeFrank, Lag’s closed its doors, leaving behind a bittersweet legacy. But don’t you fret! The flame of community spirit has been reignited, and it’s all thanks to a couple of familiar faces!
This year, two super enthusiastic friends, Justin Shubert and Eric Wallace, both of whom worked for DeFrank during his tenure, decided it was high time to bring back the beloved Lag’s. Living in Crestwood themselves, they’ve reached deep into their hearts, wanting to celebrate the community that raised them. According to the Lag’s Eatery website, these lifelong Birmingham residents are determined to “honor the community that raised them” by reinstating the magic that once made Lag’s a favorite for so many.
So, what’s in store for that much-anticipated reopening day on November 20? Well, brace yourselves for a feast starting at 6 a.m.! The Lag’s Eatery Instagram account says it best: “We’re back, baby! Join us for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner.” It seems that not only will they dish out some tempting classics, but there might even be a cheeky little parking lot party to celebrate this grand reopening!
As for the menu, details are still under wraps, but you can bet on your favorite breakfast staples and more. With Shubert and Wallace now at the helm, you can count on a menu bursting with good old-fashioned comfort food that’s bound to warm your heart and fill your belly.
With weekly hours still to be unveiled, these two gentlemen have promised to keep the community in the loop. They take pride in being active community members and are excited to infuse the spirit of Lag’s into their new venture. “Let’s eat!” they cheerfully remind us, capturing the sunny vibe that Lag’s is known for.
The reopening of Lag’s Eatery isn’t just about bringing back a restaurant; it’s about rekindling relationships and the community spirit that has defined this cherished spot for decades. So mark your calendars, set your alarms, and prepare yourselves for a delicious adventure! Gather your friends, grab your family, and let’s bring the joy of good eats back into Birmingham!
Before you know it, the heartwarming aroma of Lag’s will fill the air, and the familiar chatter of happy customers will once again echo through the walls. See you at Lag’s—it’s time to create new memories!
