6-Year-Old Kindergarten Student Loses Life in Tragic Accident

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala – In a heart-rendering incident, a 6-year-old kindergarten student was tragically killed after being accidentally struck by a vehicle on Tuesday evening. The child, identified as Hunter Spanier of Center Point, died on Wednesday night at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham.

Details of the Tragic Accident

The incident took place just after 6:30 p.m on Tuesday. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 700 block of 27th Avenue NE in Center Pont upon the report of a child being hit by a car. Young Spanier was hit by a vehicle that was reversing down the driveway of a house. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to Children’s of Alabama, where he tragically passed away the following night.

Ongoing Investigation

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is currently investigating the incident and the series of events leading up to the tragic accident. At this preliminary stage in the investigation, it does not appear that any criminal activity was in connection with the unfortunate event.

Community Mourning the Loss

The tragic death of Hunter has sent shockwaves through the community, shaking everyone who knew him. Hunter was a beloved kindergarten student at Chalkville Elementary, a school that is now mourning the loss of one of its youngest pupils.

In an official statement, Dr. Walter Gonsoulin, Superintendent of Jefferson County Schools, expressed deep condolences to Hunter’s family: “We are heartbroken and extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Hunter Spanier. Hunter’s principal describes him as always having a smile on his face, and that his presence would light up the room. We grieve with Hunter’s loved ones, his friends, and his teachers, as they deal with this unimaginable loss. My prayers are with them all, and we will do everything we can to support them in the coming days.”
