Mountain Brook, Alabama – James Bennett Pearce, an accomplished junior at Mountain Brook High School, has received the coveted Eagle Scout rank, the highest achievement in the Boy Scouts of America. Pearce is an active member of Troop 53, which is chartered to St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Mountain Brook, Alabama, part of the Vulcan District of the Greater Alabama Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).
Pearce joined Troop 53 in 2017 and has been actively participating and contributing to the group. In his tenure, Pearce demonstrated leadership skills, having recently taken on the role of assistant patrol leader. His commitment to both his troop and to the guiding principles of Scouting were instrumental in earning this significant accolade.
To achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, Pearce was tasked with planning and executing a significant service project. Demonstrating his concern for education and the environment, Pearce chose to create an outdoor classroom for Tarrant Intermediate School for his project.
He led a team of volunteers and coordinated with school authorities to transform a section of the school grounds into an operational learning space. The outdoor classroom features convertible bench seating, an outdoor whiteboard, and a privacy fence encompassing the area, providing a new, unique place for learning.
Beyond his Scouting achievement, Pearce actively engages in several extracurricular activities. An athlete, Pearce has been on the varsity boys’ soccer program since 2021. He is also part of the school’s club pickleball team and is part of the weightlifting club.
Pearce is a devoted parishioner at Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church, where he serves as an acolyte and participates in the Episcopal Youth Community (EYC). The Pearce family, Julie and Lee Pearce in particular, are well known in the local community for their steadfast commitment to both the Scouting program and the local church activities.
The achievement of the Eagle Scout rank is a significant milestone in the life of any Scout. It requires commitment, leadership, and a dedication to service, traits that Pearce has demonstrated in his years as a Boy Scout. As he continues his journey, there is no doubt that the determination and application of these values will guide his future endeavors. His achievement is a testament to the values inculcated by the Boy Scouts of America and is a source of pride for both his family and community.
