Hurricane Beryl impacting flights to and from Houston at the Birmingham airport

Local travel impacts from Beryl

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The magic city falls under the indirect effects of Hurricane Beryl, affecting numerous passengers intending to journey to Houston. As a result, travelers find themselves either stranded for an extended period or just managing to take flight due to the hurricane’s influence.

News regarding the potential surge in flight delays and cancellations was delivered by the Birmingham Airport Authority via social media on Monday. As per the authority’s spokesperson, the airlines are responsible for monitoring and deciding the timings of flight arrivals and departures based on safety measures. In this instance, the final decision is left to mother nature.

Experiencing the Impact

Caden Cutshall, a passenger from Mississippi, expresses her relief in finally being able to travel back to Houston. Cutshall had arrived at the airport the previous day, only to discover her flight had been canceled. “I was on the way and found out it was cancelled after it had already been delayed two hours so then the nearest flight was Wednesday night,” she said. “I ended up finding this flight tonight. It’s a little stressful just with work. I live in Houston, and we didn’t have work today, but I think the roads are still very flooded and I think we have work tomorrow so I’m just trying to get back for that,” she added.
