Sponsor Our ArticlesHouse Eleven, a new café and event space, has opened in Woodlawn, Birmingham. Founded by local residents Kim Nguyen and Caleb Taylor, the venue offers a cozy atmosphere, fresh coffee sourced from local roasters, and plans for a diverse bar menu. The space, restored from a historic building, aims to foster community connections through events and gatherings. With a design inspired by the Dark Academia aesthetic, it welcomes early risers and locals looking for a unique spot to relax or host events.
Woodlawn, Birmingham is buzzing with excitement as a brand new café and event space has just opened its doors! On Monday, March 10, House Eleven officially became the talk of the town, offering a delightful combination of coffee, a bar, and a vibrant environment for events.
Located at 5229 1st Ave N along U.S. Route 11, House Eleven is the brainchild of local residents Kim Nguyen and Caleb Taylor. Both Kim and Caleb have deep roots in the Birmingham area, having met while studying at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). With a passion for their community, they decided to bring something special to Woodlawn.
Kim comes equipped with an MBA from Auburn University and has experience working in the renewable energy sector. Meanwhile, Caleb is no stranger to entrepreneurship, as he has successfully founded his own home-building business. Their journey into the world of hospitality and community hubs is inspired by their background in buying and refurbishing historic homes in Woodlawn, and House Eleven stands as a testament to their vision.
The building that now houses House Eleven is steeped in history, dating back to **1900**. It required a loving restoration to bring it back to life, but Kim and Caleb were more than up for the challenge. Their goal was clear: to create an inclusive space where everyone feels welcome.
If you’re an early riser, you’re in for a treat! The café starts brewing fresh coffee as early as 6:30 AM each day. Fans of local coffee will appreciate that House Eleven is sourcing its beans from several beloved local roasters, including June Coffee, Domestique Coffee, and Red Bike Coffee. It’s the perfect spot to kick-start your morning routine!
While the café is already open, the bar program is still under development as they await their liquor license. However, Kim and Caleb have plans for an internationally inspired drink menu that is sure to delight patrons once it launches. The bar, combined with the café experience, will create a diverse and exciting atmosphere for all guests.
Upon entering House Eleven, guests are met with a charmingly designed interior that features a cozy lounge area inspired by the Dark Academia aesthetic, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Just beyond the indoor spaces, there’s a lovely rear patio for those who prefer to soak up some fresh air while enjoying their drinks and treats. This outdoor area also includes extra seating and a stage, opening the door for various events in the community.
House Eleven is not just a café; it’s also a multi-functional event space! The venue can be rented out for private events, family gatherings, or even community happenings. There are even provisions to host food trucks in the future, further enhancing the local experience. A resident and Birmingham City Councilor has also expressed plans to host an event here soon, proving that House Eleven is already becoming a popular hub for the community.
Kim and Caleb see House Eleven as a true labor of love. Their vision extends beyond just a business; they hope to create a space where community connections can flourish. With their combined passion and dedication, it’s clear that House Eleven is set to become a beloved fixture in Woodlawn for years to come.
So, whether you’re after a delicious cup of coffee to start your day, looking for a cozy spot to unwind, or searching for a perfect venue for your next event, House Eleven is the place to be!
