This year, the McWane Science Center is rolling out the red carpet for an exciting event that the whole family can enjoy—it’s called Giving Week, and it runs from December 1-7!
What’s the Big Deal?
So, what exactly is Giving Week? Well, you might have heard of Giving Tuesday, that special day when folks take a moment to donate to their favorite nonprofits. McWane Science Center is taking it a step further, expanding this into a full week of giving! This means you have a whole seven days to show your support for all the incredible work they do in our city.
Get Ready for the Animal Ambassador Showdown!
One of the coolest parts of Giving Week this year is the Animal Ambassador Showdown! From December 1-7, you can vote for your favorite McWane critters while helping to fund their care. It’s a fun and interactive way for families to engage in supporting education and wildlife conservation all in one go! So, how do you participate? It’s super simple!
How to Vote!
Each dollar you donate counts as a vote for your chosen animal and directly supports their care. You’ll be choosing between some fabulous critters, and trust us, you won’t want to miss this adorable showdown! Here’s a quick peek at the contenders:
- The Snakes: They might be sneaky, but they need your help to win! Fun fact: Did you know that snakes live on every continent except Antarctica?
- Moe the Moray Eel: This underwater superstar is ready to make a splash! Fun fact: Moray eels have two sets of jaws—talk about a fish with a bite!
- The Turtles: They might be slow, but who said that can’t be victorious? Fun fact: Turtles are amniotes, meaning they breathe air and lay eggs on land.
- The Dire Wolf: This large, extinct canine is a must-see! Fun fact: Dire wolves became extinct at the end of the last Ice Age, and their bite was stronger than a modern gray wolf’s by 129%!
- The Tarantulas: These eight-legged beauties might just be the most fascinating! Fun fact: Tarantulas have tiny hairs that help them navigate and can even be used for self-defense.
- Marshmallow the Frog: This albino African-clawed frog is hopping to win your heart! Fun fact: In the wild, these frogs can live around 15-16 years, but in captivity? They can make it to 20!
