Hey there, Birmingham! If you’ve ever wondered how to wrap up the unique flavors and creativity of this vibrant city into a charming gift, look no further than Madison Murphy—the mastermind behind a budding gift box empire called Byndel.
Born and raised right here in the Magic City, Madison is a true local at heart. You could say her love for Birmingham runs deep, as she claims the longest she’s ever been away was a brief 30-day family trip. Now, with her business, she’s found a way to share that love with the rest of us!
Before venturing into the world of gift boxes, Madison had an impressive run as a piano teacher. After being homeschooled and attending Briarwood Christian School, she poured her creative energy into music. At just 17, she started teaching piano and continued to do so for a solid decade. She adored her students but realized it was time for a new chapter in her life.
In 2016, while still teaching, she dabbled in a grocery delivery business called Full Pantry, which is still thriving today. But in the back of her mind, Madison was already dreaming up her next big idea.
In 2018, she had a flash of inspiration while doing some festive Christmas deliveries through Full Pantry. She realized there was a gap in the Birmingham market for gift boxes filled with local goodies. With this lightbulb moment, Byndel was born.
Originally, she had plans to name it Parcel, but when she discovered an existing business by that name in Oregon, she turned to the dictionary for help. One weekend road trip to the beach later, she found her perfect name. “Byndel is the Saxon spelling for bundle, which means ‘a number of things put together.’ And that’s exactly what I’m doing!” she shared enthusiastically.
Fast forward to now—Byndel has really taken off! “My business has grown leaps and bounds this year,” Madison beamed. Amidst the hustle and bustle of gift-giving seasons, she carefully curates each box to highlight the very best local products Birmingham has to offer.
For those who want a taste of Alabama, she offers a delicious Alabama box featuring blue grits by McEwen & Sons, tea from Piper & Leaf, a dish towel from Stately Made, and honey from Bee Creek Farm. Got someone who needs a morning pick-me-up? The Pick Me Up box pairs a lovely mug from Civil Stoneware with tea, coffee from Cala Coffee, and sweet honey. And we can’t forget the Southerner box, a perfect blend of Jim ‘N Nick’s cheese biscuit mix and Medders Family Farm’s S’mores Peanut Butter!
What’s more, Madison sees gifting as much more than just a fun activity. “Gifting can be a huge way for a business to get more business,” she pointed out. She believes in offering gifts that feel valuable and meaningful, ensuring that each item helps local businesses stay front of mind.
So, as the holiday seasons return and gift-giving creeps into our minds, why not support Madison and her commitment to showcasing our Birmingham treasures? With Byndel, you can give the gift of local charm while ensuring your loved ones feel truly special.
Madison Murphy is doing an amazing job of connecting Birmingham’s creativity and community through Byndel, so let’s get out there, support local, and spread some joy together!
