As the final echoes of the whistle fade away in Birmingham, Alabama, the high school football season has officially wrapped up, and what a thrilling season it has been! With heart-stopping games, last-minute touchdowns, and some inspirational underdog stories, this year’s championship games were nothing short of spectacular. After an intense weekend filled with state championship action, we’re excited to share the final Top 25 rankings for Alabama’s elite high school football teams.
Taking the top spot this year in the Yellowhammer State is the Thundering Herd of Parker High School! Parker captured the Class 6A state championship in a commanding 28-17 victory over Saraland. Their performance, particularly in the second half, was impressive and well-deserved, showcasing the teamwork and skill that got them to the top. Saraland, who had their share of triumphs, faced a tough end after an incredible season.
Moving on to the Class 7A state championship, the Thompson Spartans also put on a clinic, defeating Phenix City Central with a score of 21-7. Quarterback KJ Lacey showcased his quarterback prowess, throwing for over 2,200 yards and landing 31 touchdowns throughout the season. It’s always a challenge to return to the championship after several seasons in a row, and while the Spartans didn’t claim the top prize this time, they played valiantly and fought hard on the field.
The Red Devils of Thompson faced a challenging journey this season. After leading for weeks, their losses to Auburn and Opelika took a toll, leading to their eventual defeat against Thompson in the playoffs. What a rollercoaster ride it has been, particularly for the fans who cheered them on! With a deep breath, the team and their supporters will be regrouping and hoping for a fresh start next season.
In a somber turn, the Warriors endured a season of tough losses, with all three defeats coming by a single point. That’s got to sting! Despite their setbacks, it’s crucial to highlight their resilient spirit and determination. Every football season has its ups and downs, and the Warriors are primed for a robust comeback!
Meanwhile, Carver Montgomery jumped up the rankings after a stellar 44-35 victory over Opelika. Even with early season losses, their progress shows the promise of what’s to come. Their performance against Andalusia was a standout moment too, winning 38-0 and proving their capabilities on both sides of the ball.
You can’t overlook the grit shown by Montgomery Catholic, who faced off against Moody in an exhilarating 17-14 showdown to claim the Class 5A state championship. They fought until the very last minute, and that’s what high school football is all about—heroes made in heart-pounding moments.
The season wrapped up with some heart-wrenching losses elsewhere, too. The Wildcats came to a close with a 31-7 defeat against Thompson, while the Hornets lost 30-14 to Enterprise. On a lighter note, the Jaguars of Spain Park showed their mettle but faced a tough competition in a 45-19 loss to Saraland. Each game told a story; some of triumph and others of the lessons learned along the way.
As we glance at the final rankings, Parker sits proudly at No. 1, followed by Thompson and then Saraland. Each team contributes to the rich tapestry of high school football in Alabama, and it’s always exciting to see how new rivalries and storylines unfold season after season.
To all the players, coaches, and fans in Birmingham and beyond, congratulations on an unforgettable season! We look forward to seeing how the off-season shapes the next thrilling chapter in Alabama high school football. Until next time, keep that school spirit high!
