Cozy Catfe Event at O’Neal Library Provides Stress Relief for Mountain Brook Teens

Cozy Catfe Brings Joy to Teen Library-goers in Mountain Brook

Mountain Brook, AL – If you’re looking for a fantastic way to unwind after a long school day, look no further! The O’Neal Library recently hosted a delightful event called the Cozy Catfe on November 21, and it was a purr-fect haven for teens needing a little relaxation. This charming gathering, designed for students in grades 7-12, brought together furry companionship and a cozy atmosphere to help combat stress.

Meet Clover, the Star of the Show!

In the spotlight on that special day was the library’s beloved therapy cat, Clover. With a soft, long-haired ginger coat and an affectionate demeanor, Clover was a hit among the teens. His owner, Lora Kral, hails from the organization Hand in Paw, which specializes in therapy animals. Clover didn’t just stroll into the library willy-nilly; he had to pass rigorous tests that included facing loud noises and being petted in unexpected ways. It’s not as easy as it sounds, folks – but Clover nailed it with flying colors!

Creating a Safe Space

Michelle Chang and Gracie Roth from the Teen department at O’Neal Library orchestrated this wonderful event. The idea of the Cozy Catfe blossomed after teens on the library advisory board suggested the addition of a library cat, following the success of therapy dogs in previous events. Roth explained, “Our other teen programs are loud and chaotic. It’s nice to provide both types of spaces.” They aimed to create a peaceful environment for students to relax and recharge.

The Atmosphere

The ambiance at the Cozy Catfe was thoughtfully designed to encourage relaxation. The librarians set the mood by dimming the lights and playing a calming fireplace video on YouTube. Snacks were prepared not just for the teens but also for Clover – who, let’s face it, might have enjoyed one too many treats that day! A sensory station buzzed with excitement as attendees engaged with various activities. The room was filled with a cart of books just waiting to be read, making it a cozy little nook for literary adventures.

A Warm Welcome

As Clover made his entrance, the eager teens greeted him with gentle hands and smiles that could light up any room. They settled in with their homework, indulged in some reading, and got creative with crafts. The presence of a furry friend certainly made the day brighter, giving them all a chance to take a breather from their busy schedules.

Looking Ahead

But the fun doesn’t stop there! Mark your calendars, students! Roth and Chang are already planning another fantastic gathering during the library’s open hours from December 16-19 to help students through finals week. Expect to see therapy dogs, more snacks, and plenty of destress activities. It’s an excellent opportunity to focus on your work while enjoying the soothing effect of some furry companions!

The Bottom Line

All in all, the Cozy Catfe at O’Neal Library is an excellent example of how community programs can uplift and support young adults. Between the unique charm of Clover and the thoughtful planning of the library staff, it’s clear that these cozy moments are exactly what this community needs. So if you’re a teen looking for a cute break from all that homework, keep an eye out for the next Cozy Catfe. You might just find your new favorite way to relax!
