Excitement Builds for the New Cooper Green Medical Clinic Opening in Birmingham This December

Excitement Builds for the New Cooper Green Medical Clinic in Birmingham

Birmingham locals, get ready to welcome the brand-new Cooper Green medical clinic, opening its doors this mid-December! After over two years of construction, the $120 million state-of-the-art facility is set to replace the aging original clinic that has served the community for the past half-century. An exciting transformation is underway, and the entire city can feel the positive buzz!

A Legacy of Care

Let’s take a little trip down memory lane. Cooper Green was first known as Mercy Hospital when it opened its doors in 1972. With 319 beds, this community-focused hospital provided essential medical services to every resident of Jefferson County, regardless of their ability to pay. Talk about making healthcare accessible!

Fast forward to April 2020, when the Cooper Green Mercy Health Services Authority was established in collaboration with the UAB Health System to oversee the clinic’s operations. The need for a more modern facility was clear, which sparked the journey toward this new medical marvel. The original building, which had served Birmingham for many years, simply couldn’t keep up with contemporary healthcare demands.

State-of-the-Art Features Await

David Randall, the CEO of the Cooper Green Mercy Health Services Authority, shared his excitement during a recent tour of the new facility. He expressed, “This marks another milestone, a promise fulfilled, which is the opening of the clinic. Maybe I’m biased, but I would say this is the nicest healthcare facility in Birmingham. It was designed with both the patients and staff in mind.”

The shiny new clinic spans an impressive 211,000-square-foot area and boasts five stories filled with full-service outpatient care features. From physical therapy spaces that are so inviting, you might want to work out there yourself, to a variety of specialized treatment areas, this clinic is a dream come true for both medical professionals and patients alike. Randall enthusiastically noted, “I’m most excited about our physical therapy space, which, quite frankly, I would like to go and use and work out. It includes both an indoor and outdoor space.” How fantastic does that sound?

A Bright Future for Community Health

But that’s not all! This facility is not just about modern aesthetics; it aims to set new national benchmarks in how healthcare is delivered in Birmingham and beyond. The importance of focusing on health and well-being in our communities can’t be underestimated. Randall believes that this new clinic will serve as a model for improving health and lives across various populations.
