Clanton, AL – Excitement is building in Clanton as construction officially commences on the new Chilton County Courthouse. The project, spearheaded by Birmingham-based contractor Brasfield & Gorrie, has a budget of $32 million and will be located along Alabama Highway 145.
Spanning approximately 72,000 square feet, the courthouse will be situated on a six-acre portion of a larger 13-acre plot, offering plenty of space for future expansion. It’s designed to be a functional and modern hub for the community, including courtrooms, support areas, and licensing and administrative offices.
Designed by Birchfield Penuel Architects, the courthouse aims to blend contemporary functionality with a welcoming atmosphere. Associate Principal Russ Realmuto from Birchfield Penuel Architects expressed their commitment to meeting current needs as well as anticipating future growth for the community. “Our goal is to create a space that not only meets the needs of today but also embraces the future potential of Chilton County,” Realmuto noted.
The project kicked off recently and is expected to wrap up by early 2026. Community members are eager to see the progress over the coming months, as this new facility promises to enhance the local government infrastructure significantly.
Vice President and Division Manager of Brasfield & Gorrie, Sara Beth Wilcox, emphasized the importance of the project for the community. “We’re honored to bring our significant experience in government construction to Chilton County,” she stated. “Having been headquartered in Alabama for over 60 years, we are passionate about building strong communities—especially in the places we call home.’
The new courthouse isn’t just about a new building; it represents a significant investment in the future of Chilton County. As Clanton continues to grow, this facility will play a pivotal role in accommodating an increasing population and the complexities that come with it. The enlarged capacity will ensure that all administrative functions are efficiently handled, promoting better service to residents.
Residents are encouraged to engage in the courthouse project, with opportunities for public feedback expected as the construction moves forward. This engagement aims to reflect the needs and desires of the local population in the design and functionality of the new space.
The creation of the new Chilton County Courthouse is a positive step for the community, promising a modern solution to make courthouse dealings easier and more accessible for its citizens. As construction progresses, residents can keep their eyes open for updates and milestones along the way—an exciting chapter for Clanton is just beginning.
