It’s a big day in Birmingham as Brasfield & Gorrie, one of Alabama’s most recognized construction firms, is ushering in a wave of exciting leadership changes as the year comes to a close. The company has announced that Rob Blalock will take over as CEO starting January 1, while the current CEO, Jim Gorrie, will transition to the role of executive chairman. Founder Miller Gorrie isn’t going anywhere either; he’ll continue to serve as the chairman of the Gorrie Legacy Trust.
This transition seems to be a natural step for the company—a move that has been in the works for some time now. Rob, who has spent an impressive 26 years at Brasfield & Gorrie, has been climbing the ladder through various roles in project management and preconstruction. He stepped into the role of president in 2022, so he is no stranger to leadership.
Throughout his career, Rob has made a name for himself by leading some truly remarkable projects, including well-known buildings such as Atlanta’s 1010 Midtown and the Loews Atlanta Hotel and Convention Center. He has also played significant roles in other notable structures like the Red Hat Tower in Raleigh and the Omni Hotel in Nashville. Clearly, this new position for Rob isn’t just a title change—it represents a continuation of his hard work and dedication to the company.
Rob expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming change, saying, “I know I have big shoes to fill as I follow Jim, whose leadership has been tremendously important to me throughout my career at Brasfield & Gorrie.” His respect for Jim’s unwavering commitment to the company’s values is clear. He emphasized how Jim has set a collaborative tone and built strong relationships with clients and subcontractors.
Jim Gorrie isn’t stepping away quietly; his new role will involve supporting Rob and the leadership team. He assures everyone, “I could not be more confident in the future outlook for our company. Rob’s creativity, passion, and leadership have been evident throughout his career, and we’re thrilled to formalize this transition after years of planning and working closely together.”
Miller Gorrie is equally optimistic about the company’s future in Rob’s capable hands. He commented, “The company is in good hands. I have every confidence that Rob will continue to uphold the values and foundation of Brasfield & Gorrie, and the Gorrie Legacy Trust ensures our stability for the long term.”
The leadership shakeup doesn’t stop at Rob. Todd Jackson has been named as the new president of the company. With an impressive 29-year tenure at Brasfield & Gorrie, Todd specializes in healthcare construction project management. His notable projects include the Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham and the Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.
Another significant promotion is that of Alexia Borden, who will step up to become the chief administrative officer. Having only joined the company earlier this year, Alexia’s ascent within Brasfield & Gorrie is a testament to her skills and the team’s belief in her capabilities.
As these changes unfold, it’s clear that Brasfield & Gorrie is poised for a bright future with a new generation of leaders taking the helm. The combination of experience and fresh perspectives promises to strengthen their commitment to quality and client service. It’s a new chapter for this Birmingham-based company, but one that strongly respects the lessons of the past. As they say, the best is yet to come!
