Hey there, Birmingham! November is the time for giving, and our very own UAB is stepping up to the plate with its annual initiative, “Blazers Against Hunger.” It’s all about making sure that patients, students, and employees have access to healthy food. Who wouldn’t want to help out their neighbors, right?
At the heart of this generous campaign is the Blazer Kitchen, the on-campus food bank that’s been a beacon of hope since it opened its doors back in 2017. Can you believe it has served over 872,000 meals already? That’s seriously impressive! It’s all about providing food, resources, and support for those in need on campus.
Everyone knows that feeling when the fridge is bare or when money is tight. Well, Blazer Kitchen is here to ease that burden. They haven’t just been dishing out meals; they’re making sure those meals are nutritious and satisfying. It’s not just about filling bellies; it’s about ensuring that everyone has access to quality food, which is absolutely essential.
So how do they do it? Through donations, of course! The amazing part is that thanks to their partnership with the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, they can obtain food for an astonishingly low cost of around 18 cents per pound. That’s a steal! This model means that every penny donated goes a long way to feed the hungry in our community.
If you’re feeling the holiday spirit and want to pitch in, there’s good news! Donations are warmly accepted for the Blazers Against Hunger campaign. No amount is too small, and every little bit helps. Whether you’re able to give food or funds, your contribution is invaluable.
Want to make a donation? You can easily do it online by clicking the link provided by the UAB. It’s quick and simple – that’s what we like to see!
If you need more information or want to learn about how to get involved, you can give them a call at 205-996-2040. They’re always eager to share how you can join the fight against hunger right here in our community. Whether you’re a student, a faculty member, or even a bystander who believes in the mission, there’s a place for everyone to help out.
As the holidays approach, it’s easy to get caught up in shopping and festivities, but let’s not forget the importance of community and supporting one another. Initiatives like Blazers Against Hunger remind us that we’re all in this together. By contributing to this cause, you’re not just filling plates; you’re filling hearts with hope and kindness.
So, Birmingham, let’s rally together and make this November one to remember! With every donation, you’re making a real difference, showing everyone that our community stands united against hunger.
Happy giving, everyone!
