Birmingham Gears Up to Welcome Seven Exciting New Businesses

There’s a renewed buzz in the city of Birmingham as a flurry of new businesses and establishments are set to open their doors in the coming weeks and months, enriching the local landscape with a diverse blend of retail, food, and fitness offerings. At the same time, the city bids goodbye to a beloved local restaurant that has served Birmingham with its signature Mexican dishes.

Now Open

1. Bin Depot | Bessemer

A unique retail venture, Bin Depot, has opened in Bessemer, offering a solution to what happens to most items returned to Amazon. This innovative concept store presents consumers with the opportunity to purchase top-brand items at a fraction of the price. From electronics and home goods to clothing and toys, shoppers can grab a bargain as prices start at $14 on Fridays, progressively dropping to as low as 50¢ on Thursdays.

2. The Carver Theatre | Theatre District

After an extensive five-year renovation, the legendary Carver Performing Arts Theatre is now open again. Famed as the home of the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, the historic locale reveled in a grand reopening, with a spectacular new exhibit showcasing the Hall’s illustrious inductees.

3. The Edge | Homewood

The Edge, a much-anticipated development in Homewood, is officially getting underway with a soft opening for some of its tenants while others are still preparing for their grand launch. Current businesses open with limited hours include Baba Java Coffee + Popbar, B’ham Burgers, Shin Ramen, The Que*Bicle, and True40.

Coming Soon

4. Joyland | Avondale

Joyland, the Nashville-based burger restaurant spearheaded by renowned Chef Sean Brock and Birmingham’s legendary restauranteur Nick Pihakis, is coming to Avondale. The restaurant promises to bring a whole new dining experience for Birmingham food enthusiasts in mid-August.

5. Urban Hai | Parkside

Urban Hai, an authentic Chinese restaurant based in Atlanta, is set to offer a taste of traditional dishes and Szechuan-style cuisine in Birmingham later this year. Look forward to the restaurant’s opening in the Denham Building at the end of 2024.

6. Board in Birmingham | Highway 280

Birmingham’s first-ever restaurant specializing in charcuterie is coming this fall. Located on Highway 280 near Greystone, the new Board in Birmingham restaurant is a unique concept dreamed up by local caterer Corrine Sweet.

7. Workout Anytime Gym | Irondale

Promising 24-hour access seven days a week, Workout Anytime gym is set to open doors in Irondale later this year. Fitness enthusiasts can look forward to a wide range of facilities, including cardio and strength equipment, a cryolounge, hydromassage, infrared sauna, personal and group training, redlight therapy and tanning.

Closure

8. Cantina | West Homewood Closure

On a less upbeat note, Cantina Tortilla Grill has officially ceased operations in West Homewood. The closure marks the end of a vibrant culinary chapter for Birmingham, with the Castros, Cantina’s owners, expressing their heartfelt thanks to their loyal clientele. However, they’ve signaled their intent to redouble their efforts at Sol Y Luna, their other restaurant near the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.

With these developments, Birmingham continues to be a dynamic and evolving city, boosting the local economy and vibrantly catering to the diverse tastes and interests of its populace.
