Birmingham is patting itself on the back for kicking off a huge {road resurfacing project} this fall as part of a plan that started way back in 2017. The city is set to repave a whopping 36 miles of its streets, which means 246 street segments are getting a well-deserved facelift. Rick Journey, the communications director for Birmingham, shared that the Department of Transportation has been working hard to figure out which streets are most in need. She’s been eagerly waiting for the paving in front of her house. “It really changes the neighborhood,” she says. Although this marks the end of the five-year resurfacing plan, Journey was quick to assure us that the work here isn’t done. “We will keep looking at which streets need it the most,” he said, hinting that more revitalization efforts are on the way for Birmingham’s neighborhoods.
