Birmingham Prepares for the Spooky Scramble Filmmaking Competition

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Excitement is building in Birmingham as the Sidewalk Film Center’s Spooky Scramble Filmmaking Competition gears up to begin on Friday, October 25. The weekend-long event invites filmmakers of all skill levels to come together and showcase their creativity in a friendly competition.

Kickoff Meeting Details

To get started, there will be a mandatory kickoff meeting held via Zoom on the opening day of the competition. This meeting is essential for all teams wishing to participate, as it will outline the rules and expectations for the weekend’s activities. Participants must register to receive the Zoom link. Only one member from each team is required to register and attend the meeting.

The deadline for registration is set for October 23, just a couple of days before the competition kicks off. It’s a chance for local filmmakers to gather their friends and bring their ideas to life within just 48 hours.

Filmmaking Challenge

From October 25 to 27, participating teams will have a limited timeframe to write, direct, and edit a short film. These films will then be showcased during the Scramble Screening on October 30, which will take place at the Sidewalk Film Center and Cinema. For those who cannot attend in person, the screening will also have a virtual option available.

Prizes Up for Grabs

This year’s competition offers some exciting prizes for the filmmakers. There will be a $500 Jury Prize awarded to one standout film, while the Audience Choice Award, valued at $250, will be given based on viewers’ votes during the screening. Both prize winners will also have the honor of being featured in the programming for the upcoming 27th Sidewalk Film Festival.

A Community Gathering

The Spooky Scramble not only provides a platform for filmmakers to display their work but also fosters a sense of community. Local filmmakers, aspiring directors, and anyone interested in the film industry can come together, share their ideas, and learn from one another. Organizers hope this event will encourage creativity and collaboration among participants.

Conclusion

As the date approaches, the anticipation in Birmingham grows. The Spooky Scramble promises to be an exhilarating weekend filled with filmmaking passion and creativity. Filmmakers interested in participating are urged to sign up by October 23 and prepare for a thrilling 48 hours of work leading up to the big screening on October 30.

For film enthusiasts and the general public, mark your calendars for the Scramble Screening, where you can support local talent and enjoy a variety of films created by your neighbors!
