The victim, Demarious Antwon Cherry, was described as an innocent bystander, only trying to run a simple errand. In a heartbreaking twist, an 18-year-old, identified as Remeon Lewis, has now been charged with murder in connection with the fatal incident.
The tense event unfolded around 9:40 p.m. on Roscoe Avenue, specifically in the Rev. Dr. Morrell Todd Homes area. Reports are coming in that approximately 40 shots were fired during what police have labeled a gunfight. On the following Friday, the Birmingham Police Department’s Crime Reduction Team was able to take Remeon Lewis into custody without incident in the 900 Block of 46th Street North.
