In an effort to support students of the Birmingham area as they prepare for the new school year, a network of community partners have initiated multitude of events providing free school supplies. The incoming academic year is scheduled to begin on August 5th, 2024.
On August 2nd from 4-5 p.m, KISS FM and Hibbett City Gear will offer hundreds of free backpacks at the Hibbett Hoover store. Children must attend the event accompanied by an adult to receive their backpack, with a limit of one bag per child.
The Worship Center Christian Church is inviting students to its Derby Parkway campus on August 2nd for a Back to School Emerge Night, which lasts from 5-9 p.m. The event includes free haircuts, giveaways, and a variety of activities and food trucks.
On August 3rd, The Willie J. Perry Foundation will host a community health fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at Kelly Ingram Park and will distribute free backpacks and school supplies, subject to stock availability. The fair also offers attendees live music and free food.
The Birmingham Crossplex will celebrate its 13th anniversary with an event that includes games, door prizes, facility tours, and free admittance. In addition, they will also distribute free school supplies and backpacks. The celebration takes place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m on August 3rd.
The Power of Life Foundation will host a giveaway of school backpacks on August 3rd from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It dedicates its work to aid those living under the poverty line, women, children, senior citizens, veterans, at-risk youth, and transients.
Successful Hands, LLC will conduct its second annual free back-to-school giveaway on August 3rd, commencing at noon. The event includes a free hairstyle giveaway, free meals, snacks, and free school supplies.
Open to all Birmingham City Schools students, the East Side Back-to-School Drive offers free school supplies, fun activities, and snacks from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on August 3rd.
Kensation Hair Boutique will organize a Braid Loc & Cut Charity Link Up on August 4th, commencing at 8 a.m. The event will offer free braids for boys and girls, free haircuts, and free loc re-twist for children aged 13 and under.
Roosevelt City will hold its first annual Back-to-School Community Resource Fair on August 10th. The fair aims to bridge the gap in the community with fun-filled activities for children, senior citizens and everyone in between.
As back-to-school season approaches, charities, foundations, and businesses from Birmingham are joining hands to guarantee that as many students as possible have the necessary supplies to start their academic journey.
