New Refugee Non-Profit Launches in Birmingham, Alabama

News from Birmingham, Alabama reveals the emergence of the Birmingham Cross Cultural Connection (BCCC), an altruistic non-profit organization ready to welcome refugee families from August.

Aspirations for Change and Sustainability

BCCC, like any other organization with a philanthropic focus, was conceived from a fundamental desire to effect change. Their initial operations revolved around providing development coaching to a handful of clients. After obtaining their 501(c)3 status in December 2023, they promptly got to work.

Katherine Woods, currently the Executive Director at BCCC, has previous experience in non-profit work through her involvement with The Church at Brook Hill’s English as a Second Language (ESL) department. Her professional journey further propelled her towards her executive role at BCCC.

BCCC Partners to Widen their Impact

Being employed as a catalyst for change, BCCC not only aims to offer direct services to refugees, but also to create broader awareness about its work among the citizens of Birmingham. In this effort, they are supported by their partners, the most noteworthy of which is World Relief, a program that enlists volunteers and mobilizes churches to welcome immigrants.

Services and Supports

At its core, BCCC is dedicated to empowering refugees by providing necessary education, resources, and a friendly community. Their operations are structured around ensuring that refugees experience comprehensive support and are offered opportunities for personal growth. One of their notable services includes providing a retail-like experience for refugees who can ‘shop’ for items they may require.

English Certification

Refugees looking to strengthen their English proficiency can benefit from BCCC’s English certification program. Through attending English classes in one of three purposely-designed classrooms, refugees can work toward a crucial certification that will help them in their future endeavors.

Financial Classes

BCCC also offers financial classes to teach refugees the importance of budgeting and planning for a secure financial future. This vital education will allow them to make informed financial choices and ensure their stability in years to come.

Comfortable Accommodation

One of the priorities of BCCC is to see every refugee family comfortably housed – they are ensuring this by providing the necessary resources such as beds, sleeping arrangements, and support in securing safe housing.

Get Involved

For those looking to give back to the Birmingham community, BCCC is actively seeking volunteers and sponsors to help support their initiatives. Those interested in offering their help can contact Birmingham Cross Cultural Connection between Mondays and Thursdays, 9 AM to 4 PM. You can head to their website or find them on Instagram and Facebook for additional information. They are conveniently located at 2025 Patton Chapel Rd, Birmingham, AL 35216.

Volunteer at BCCC

An active call for volunteers is currently in place at BCCC. Those with a passion for service and the desire to contribute to making a difference in the lives of refugees are highly encouraged to join the BCCC team.

Sponsor Immigrant Families

Individuals and businesses can actively help refugee families build stable lives in Birmingham by sponsoring them. Sponsoring families not only provides immediate resources but also aids in building the future of the refugees involved.

Donate

Monetary donations are a powerful way to support the organization and its initiatives. By donating to BCCC, individuals will directly contribute to the provision of resources and services for refugees in need.

This promising new non-profit is a beacon of hope and support for refugees. Its initiatives echo throughout the city of Birmingham as a symbol of community and acceptance.
