Birmingham Police Rescues Two Young Children After Stolen Vehicle Incident

In an alarming incident that unfolded in Birmingham, police have successfully located two young children who were in a vehicle reported stolen on Thursday morning. The Birmingham Police Department has confirmed that a 2-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl are now safe and sound.

The Scenario

The whole scare started around 10 a.m. when a vehicle was reported stolen from the New Season Treatment Center, located in the 5600 block of Clifford Circle, near Trussville. According to authorities, the car was left running with the little ones inside when it was taken. You can just imagine the panic rushing through anyone’s mind at that moment!

The Rescue Operation

Thanks to a swift response from Birmingham police, along with assistance from various law enforcement agencies—including the Irondale Police and Tarrant Police—the stolen vehicle was located later the same day in the 1700 block on Burgin Avenue. At that crucial moment, officers detained two suspects who were found at the scene.

Birmingham Police Department Officer Truman Fitzgerald expressed gratitude towards the staff at the New Season Treatment Center for their cooperation during the investigation. Their provision of video footage was a vital piece of evidence in the quickly-developing situation. “We then located the stolen vehicle along with the two children,” Fitzgerald shared. “They were safe—we still got them medical treatment. And, we are happy that we recovered those children. That was our main priority. Recovering those children, safe.”

Where We Stand Now

The good news? Both children have been reunited with family and are reported to be in good health following a quick medical check-up. The Birmingham PD announced around 1:30 p.m. that the young ones were found unharmed, which was a huge relief to everyone involved.

However, not everything has been resolved just yet. A third suspect remains at large, and law enforcement is working diligently to track this person down. Fitzgerald assured that “our federal partners along with our detectives are still out looking for the third person.” If the need arises, he mentioned that the public will be notified for assistance in the search.

As for the suspects already in custody, it has been confirmed that they will face criminal charges once warrants are obtained. Tarrant police have stated that both suspects are currently being held in the Birmingham city jail. Authorities have also noted that there appears to be no relationship between the suspects and the children, which certainly puts a few unease questions to rest.
