BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The nonprofit organization Small Magic is inviting the Birmingham community to its annual Storytime fundraising event on September 19. This year’s event promises an evening filled with captivating live performances and engaging activities aimed at raising awareness and funds for early literacy initiatives.
The Storytime event will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Lumi, located at 2202 2nd Avenue South. In addition to storytelling, attendees can explore an interactive installation that underscores the importance of early learning and its impact on local families.
Small Magic has partnered with Thank You Books to host a special “book fair for grown-ups.” Guests will have the opportunity to fill a custom tote bag with a variety of new books, making it a unique shopping experience while supporting a good cause.
This year’s theme, “Chapter 2: Surprises,” will feature a lineup of notable guests, including Alabama Poet Laureate Ashley Jones, Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame member Jose Carr, and City Councilor J.T. Moore among others. These performers will showcase their talents, contributing to a memorable night for all attendees.
Small Magic focuses on enhancing children’s school readiness and future economic mobility. The organization employs community-centered and evidence-based approaches to ensure that children in Birmingham are equipped with the skills and resources necessary for a successful future. Executive Director Ruth Ann Moss expressed excitement about the event, stating, “We are thrilled to invite the community to our second annual Storytime event. Last year’s event was a success, celebrating both the power of stories and the generosity of our community.”
The Storytime event is not just a fundraiser but also a celebration of the community’s commitment to fostering early literacy. By participating, attendees will be contributing to Small Magic’s efforts to make a significant impact on the lives of local children.
The organization urges everyone to come out, enjoy the storytelling, and support a vital cause that enriches the Birmingham community. With the promise of an unforgettable evening, this event aims to reinforce the values of education and storytelling while also providing a platform for local talent.
For anyone interested in the arts, community support, and making a difference in the lives of children, the Storytime event on September 19 is not to be missed. It’s an opportunity to enjoy a night of entertainment while supporting a cause that invests in the future of Birmingham’s youth.
