Birmingham is buzzing with excitement as Mayor Randall Woodfin gears up for a big run at a third term in office. Just recently, he kicked off his campaign and has already raked in more than 300,000 dollars in just under a week!
With the official campaign season starting on August 26, Woodfin has been on a roll. In just five days, he pulled in a whopping 333,352 dollars from over 210 generous contributors, according to the latest campaign finance reports filed with the local probate court.
The next election day is set for August 26, 2025, and Woodfin is already making waves as he approaches the conclusion of his second term, having previously clinched victory in both the 2017 and 2021 elections.
It’s no surprise that Woodfin has some big names backing him. His contributor list includes well-known figures from various sectors. For instance, Dunn Construction and Harbert Management Corp. each chipped in 15,000 dollars, while Royal Cup Coffee’s former CEO, Hatton C.V. Smith, donated 10,000 dollars. Even George W. Barber Jr., the founder of Barber Motorsports Park, contributed 10,000 dollars.
But it’s not just businesses that are showing support. The medical community is also stepping up, with notable contributions from prominent doctors like Nancy Dunlap Johns, who gave 20,000 dollars. There are also substantial donations from law firms like Burr & Forman LLP and several Political Action Committees, who collectively contributed around 55,000 dollars.
It’s heartwarming to see a blend of big and small donations fueling his campaign. Over 60 of the contributors donated 1,000 dollars or more, but many more individuals jumped in with smaller amounts, including a nod to the 2025 election year with donations of 20.25 dollars.
Interestingly, while the majority of contributors are from Birmingham and nearby areas, support for Woodfin stretches far beyond the city limits. Donors have come from states like Georgia, Florida, New York, Texas, Michigan, Nevada, Missouri, New Jersey, South Carolina, and California. It’s clear that Woodfin’s appeal reaches well beyond just the local community.
As Woodfin sets his sights on another term, the political landscape is relatively quiet. So far, he seems to be the only candidate eyeing the Birmingham mayoral seat for the upcoming election in 2025. His strong fundraising efforts and the level of support he’s receiving could put him in a favorable position as we gear up for a lively election season.
With just a few days into his campaign, Woodfin has already demonstrated his capability to garner support and enthusiasm. As the date for the election approaches, it’ll be interesting to see how he continues to engage with the community and rally more support. Birmingham is certainly in for an exciting run-up to the 2025 mayoral election!
