Birmingham police are investigating multiple troubling incidents, including a New Year’s Eve stabbing that resulted in a death and a recent homicide. In the stabbing case, two suspects were arrested in connection with the death of Earnest Christion Jr. Meanwhile, police are also searching for a missing woman, Brittany Kimble. In a separate incident, a homicide investigation is underway following a shooting that left one man dead and another injured. Local authorities are urging the community to provide any information related to these cases.
Birmingham has been buzzing with activity as police investigate a series of unsettling incidents that have left the community shaken. On a recent Monday evening, officers gathered near a convenience store on 24th Street SW around 6:00 p.m., setting the stage for a series of serious developments.
In a shocking event that occurred on New Year’s Eve in Ensley, police have arrested a mother and son in connection with the tragic stabbing death of 68-year-old Earnest Christion Jr. The incident transpired in the 2500 Block of 15th Street Ensley on December 31, raising concerns about safety in the area.
Investigators have identified 60-year-old Zingy Gamble as the primary suspect in the case. Authorities believe that he allegedly stabbed Christion during a domestic dispute over money. His mother, La Verne Gamble, 40, has also been implicated for allegedly hindering prosecution. In light of their involvement, the Jefferson County Magistrates Office issued a murder warrant for Zingy Gamble, while La Verne faces charges for hindering prosecution in the first degree.
Both suspects were taken into custody at the Birmingham Police Department Headquarters. Zingy Gamble is currently being held with no bond, whereas La Verne Gamble is being held on a bond of $15,000.
Meanwhile, Birmingham Police are reaching out to the public for help in locating 36-year-old Brittany Kimble, who has been reported missing since mid-December. Kimble was last seen at the Greyhound bus station on Morris Avenue, where she was supposed to catch a bus but never did. At the time of her disappearance, she was clad in a red Alabama sweatshirt, along with black and white floral yoga pants and white tennis shoes.
Adding to the worry, Kimble is diagnosed with a medical condition that affects her judgment and behavior, making her situation even more urgent. If anyone has seen her or has information regarding her whereabouts, they’re urged to call the Birmingham Police at 205-328-9311 or dial 911.
The grim news doesn’t stop there. Birmingham Police are also investigating a homicide that took place early on a recent Sunday morning. Officers rushed to the scene in the 10 block of 17th Court South around 2:31 a.m. after receiving a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, police found a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were hurriedly transported to UAB Hospital. Thankfully, the female victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, the male victim, identified as 41-year-old James Leon Craig, suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead later that evening at around 8:40 p.m.
It appears that the shooting stemmed from a verbal dispute within the victim’s residence that escalated into gunfire. In connection with this violent event, a suspect has already been taken into custody. While the investigation continues, anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to reach out to the Birmingham Police at 205-254-1764 or contact Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
As these investigations unfold, it’s crucial for the Birmingham community to stay informed and vigilant. Police continue to work tirelessly, resolving these cases and striving for the safety of all residents. Stay tuned for more updates as we follow these developing stories.
