Birmingham Unveils State-of-the-Art Health Clinic to Enhance Community Care Access

Birmingham Welcomes a New Era of Health Care with Cutting-Edge Clinic

In the heart of Birmingham, excitement buzzed through the air recently with the grand opening of a stunning new health care facility. The Cooper Green Mercy Health Services clinic, a remarkable $120 million investment, officially opened its doors to the community, showcasing a breathtaking 211,000-square-foot, five-story building that promises to redefine outpatient care.

On a bright Wednesday afternoon, *local leaders, hospital administrators, and community advocates* gathered to celebrate this momentous occasion. Among those in attendance was Maralyn Mosley, a well-known community activist whose relentless efforts helped to bring this state-of-the-art facility to life. “I was both *speechless* and *overwhelmed*,” Mosley shared, reflecting on the honor of having a community room named after her within the new clinic.

A Place for Everyone

The *Mosley Room*, located conveniently on the first floor just past the pharmacy, will serve as a multi-purpose space where support groups can hold luncheons, community meetings can take place, and arts programs can flourish. “I didn’t think anyone would have thought about a room in my name. It’s an honor,” Mosley expressed with a hint of disbelief and immense pride.

Commissioner Sheila Tyson was among the enthusiastic attendees celebrating this facility’s opening, which is designed to ensure that *every resident* can access quality health care regardless of their financial situation. “From its primary and specialty care clinics to urgent care and various therapies, Cooper Green will support the health of our community,” Tyson stated.

A Hard-Fought Victory

Back in 2012, the downsizing of the old Cooper Green Hospital faced fierce opposition from Mosley, who famously declared she was prepared to face arrest to prevent the cuts. “I told her we’d build a new building,” former County Manager Tony Petelos reminisced with a laugh, reflecting on their spirited exchanges over the years. “She didn’t believe me then, but here we are today!”

This new facility is more than just a building; it symbolizes the community’s fight for equitable health care. “Even if you’re poor, you still deserve world-class health care,” Mosley stated emphatically. And now, thanks to her hard work and the dedication of countless others, that vision is a reality.

A Comprehensive Health Care Experience

The clinic not only boasts beautiful architecture, but it’s fully equipped with comprehensive services. Patients will find an MRI machine, laboratory services, an in-house pharmacy, and specialized clinics for rehabilitation and oncology. The urgent care facility even features a separate entrance for those seeking immediate treatment.

Services are designed with patient comfort in mind, including private infusion bays in the hematology/oncology clinic and an outdoor rehabilitation patio fitted with advanced equipment such as a low-impact water treadmill. “This state-of-the-art building is designed with the patient in mind. It signifies a new chapter in health care delivery,” said Dr. Raegan Durant, the medical director of Cooper Green.

A Bright Future Ahead

As the ribbon was cut, the sense of accomplishment was palpable. The new Cooper Green Mercy Health Services clinic stands as a *testament to the community’s commitment* to ensuring health care access continues for all its residents. “It’s not just about the building; it’s about the *lives that will benefit* from the services provided here,” stated David Randall, CEO of the Cooper Green Healthcare Authority.

This facility, which originally opened as Cooper Green Hospital in 1972, has undergone significant transformation. Now, with a brand new structure and enhanced services, it is poised to cater to the needs of Birmingham’s residents effectively for years to come.

The clinic is open for business with urgent care hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and regular clinics available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Interested individuals can reach out for more information by calling 205-930-3377.

Birmingham has truly taken a big step forward in ensuring every community member can receive the healthcare they deserve, and for that, everyone is celebrating this well-deserved victory!
