The 70-year-old was struck by a car while walking home from dinner with friends on the evening of November 14, 2024. On that fateful Thursday, just before 5:30 p.m., Fabin was making his way home from the Salvation Army, a place he frequented not only for meals but also to connect with friends in the community. According to his sister, Charise Boyd, “He was crossing the street, and a car struck him and kept going.” This sudden collision left Fabin dead at the scene.

Charise had been looking forward to his usual visit that day and couldn’t shake the feeling something was wrong when he didn’t show up. “I saw my brother at least every other day, and when I didn’t see him that Thursday, I went to his apartment looking for him,” she recalled. “Nobody had seen him.” It wasn’t until she received the devastating news from the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office that she learned of the entire situation. “They took a big piece of me,” Charise expressed, still reeling from the shock.

They shared heartfelt stories, reminiscing about the joyous moments they had with Fabin. “This is a bittersweet day,” Charise reflected as they released blue balloons into the sky in memory of their beloved Pops. “This is one week today that he was killed out here by a person that struck him down and kept going.”
