As the city of Birmingham sets it’s course into March, an exciting mixture of events are happening across its landscape, celebrating women, history, black businesses, and new opportunities for both learning and enjoyment. This month gives the community plenty of reasons to get out, socialize, and discover the many attractions Birmingham has to offer.

Celebrating Women

Women’s history and influence are being celebrated in various stylish ways. A workshop entitled “Women in Media Panel” is due to happen on March 14 at Miles College, empowering women who have an interest in journalism, media, and press.

This event, held in honor of Women’s Appreciation month will recognize influential women in Birmingham. Participants will gain valuable tools and knowledge for creating effective digital business cards, with expert panelists such as Sheila Smoot, Hailey Yeager, Diamond Tyleir, Mya Jolly and Keisa Sharpe providing insights.

The second event titled “Women in Film Week” is ongoing from March 5-10 at Sidewalk Film. The event celebrates the emergence and the contributions of women’s voices in film. There will also be a session dedicated to the “Women of the Kaul Wildflower Garden” on March 19 at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, led by Molly Hendry.

Focusing on Black Businesses

The Birmingham Black Economic Alliance is hosting its Bi-Monthly Business Mixer from 6-8 p.m. at Sienna, situated at 1025 20th Street South. This event will feature guest speakers like Evan Jefferson, a virtual dispensary owner, and Niecko Glover, a community organizer and advocate.

In addition, Gardening enthusiasts can join the new gardening class titled “Right Plant, Right Place”, led by Bethany O’Rear at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens on April 2.
