For every botany enthusiast and admirer of the arts, there’s an exciting artistic experience coming your way. On Tuesday, June 25, Birmingham Botanical Gardens enriches its agenda with a captivating event from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the in-house Garden Lab.
Held under the instructive guidance of Alecia Martinez from Studio by the Tracks, the ‘Cyanotypes: Blueprints from Nature’ workshop aims to unlock participants’ creativity and foster a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
This workshop introduces participants to the world of cyanotype prints, a fascinating technology infusing art with nature. Cyanotype, a photographic printing process that churns out images in a distinctive blue hue, embodies the essence of the surrounding environment on a piece of paper, all in the absence of a camera.
Participants will explore the green expanses of the sprawling Birmingham Botanical Gardens during the workshop, searching for themes and elements in nature that resonate with them. They will then use these natural elements to produce their signature cyanotype prints.
From novices to seasoned artists, everyone can learn the process of cyanotype printing. The workshop will guide participants through the history of cyanotyping, the setup, the preparatory steps, as well as the procedure to age and care for their prints.
For members of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, tickets are available at $30, while nonmembers can get their hands on tickets at $35. Everyone with an interest in photography, the environment, or just looking for a unique, hands-on experience should plan to attend.
Known for its creative and educational workshops, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens takes pride in connecting people with plants. The gardens offer a serene and beautiful playground for creativity and exploration. Apart from the Cyanotypes: Blueprints from Nature workshop, there’s a cornucopia of experiences unfolding at the gardens all through the year. To stay updated, please visit (URL Hidden).
