Exciting news for all food and drink lovers in Birmingham! Our very own Carrigan’s Public House, fondly known as Carrigan’s Philanthropub, is making a big leap closer to the heart of downtown. Starting January, they’ll be settling into their brand-new digs at The William, located at 1911 3rd Avenue N. If you’re a fan, you’re going to want to mark your calendars because this is a game changer!
Owner David Carrigan has some fabulous plans in store for the move. Carrigan’s is set to offer a more intimate atmosphere while keeping a lot of the design character we’ve all come to love. “The space will be a little more intimate, but with a lot of the same design character,” he said. No need to worry about your favorite drinks, though. The full cocktail program is sticking around! And for food fans, expect a few delightful upgrades. The iconic menu items such as the burger, corndog, and house-cut fries are sticking around, but you can also look forward to some exciting new shareable and elevated options.
Now here’s something cool: Carrigan’s will have not just a front-facing entrance but also a charming alley entrance! Carrigan is looking to light up and reactivate the alley, taking inspiration from successful urban designs in other cities. “It’s something new and exciting that has been successful in other cities,” he shared, hinting at modern, friendly vibes that will surely entice both regulars and newcomers alike.
The William itself is quite a sight to behold. Once a furniture store back in 1905, this historic building has been revamped into a mixed-use development that’s as stylish as it is functional. Besides Carrigan’s, The William will feature 27 apartments, chic retail spaces, and a luxurious private rooftop cocktail bar managed by Carrigan’s. It’s truly a hub for business and leisure!
As for the apartments, they’ve been designed for boutique-style living, complete with concierge services like laundry and cleaning options. Imagine waking up to natural daylight filtering through a stunning 65-foot interior atrium. Wow! There will even be events hosted at the rooftop cocktail bar that promises to be a fabulous place to unwind or host private gatherings.
Reflecting on the journey, Carrigan mentioned the changing landscape of downtown Birmingham, especially in the aftermath of the pandemic. He feels the move aligns perfectly with a shift toward enhancing quality over quantity. “We were one of the first full-on restaurant bars, and we’ve kind of watched things change downtown,” he explained. The focus is now on fostering relationships within the community and creating a walkable downtown experience for everyone.
Residents and admirers of Carrigan’s can expect the restaurant to be open six days a week, with lunch offerings included! The William will be welcoming its first tenants starting January 1, and the excitement is palpable. If you’re interested in moving into one of those stylish apartments, they are currently preleasing.
For more updates, keep an eye out on the Carrigan’s website. If you ever wanted to live and enjoy life in downtown Birmingham, the time is absolutely now!
Let’s make sure to raise our glasses to Carrigan’s as they embark on this new exciting chapter. Cheers to a vibrant downtown!
