Birmingham Brewery Temporarily Closed For “Exciting Changes”

At the start of the weekend, Birmingham residents were disheartened to discover that their favourite local brewery, Ghost Train, had shut its doors temporarily. After confirming the short-term closure with the building’s landlord and failing to reach out to Ghost Train Brewing’s owner and brewmaster for additional information, this brings us to wonder, what is going on with Ghost Train Brewing?

The Story So Far

In the previous week, numerous social media posts have raised concerns over changes occurring at the Ghost Train Brewery. A key trigger was an Instagram post from Uncle G’s Pizza, the owners of the admired food truck with a partnership of two years with Ghost Train announced their search for a new location. As a result, various conjectures about the brewery’s future began dominating online discussion platforms.

Further along, the food truck had its first day at its new location, Hop City Craft Beer and Wine, on Sunday, July 28. As per the announcements made by Uncle G’s Pizza, fans are being encouraged to stop by and show their support at the new location.

Additionally, speculations started building up when a post on the r/birmingham Reddit page claimed that the brewery had officially closed. This certainly raised alarms for the fans and followers of this popular local brewery.

Ghost Train Brewing: A Temporary Shutdown?

A sign posted on the front door of Ghost Train suggested that the brewery has been shut down only temporarily. The building’s landlord confirmed the closure but did not provide any additional details. There was also an effort to reach out to Ghost Train’s owner and brewmaster, Taylor DeBoer, to give a comment on the issue, but no response has been attained so far.

About Ghost Train Brewing

Ghost Train Brewing was established back in 2014 by Patrick Small and Taylor DeBoer and has been an integral part of the local brewery scene for the past decade. With popular brews such as the Kaleidoscope Kettle Sour, Gulf Coast IPA, and the irresistibly popular O-Bomb Imperial Sour, it has managed to win the hearts of many.

Further into their journey, Ghost Train opened a new location at M2 along 1st Avenue South in 2022 and sold their original location at 2616 3rd Avenue South to Uproot Brewing. However, in May 2023, Ghost Train Brewing filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to mounting debts which allowed the business to reorganize their debts.

This temporary shutdown has indeed left a cloud of suspense over the followers and supporters of Ghost Train Brewing. Fans are eager to see their favourite local brewery back in action and we are all awaiting more news from this source.
