Sponsor Our ArticlesHey there, Birmingham! If you’re a basketball enthusiast or just someone who enjoys a good game, we’ve got some thrilling news for you. The Birmingham Squadron, our very own NBA G League team, has just announced a fantastic development that’s sure to ramp up the excitement this season.
Last week, the Squadron revealed that Lakeshore Foundation will be their primary practice home for the foreseeable future. Located right in Homewood, this foundation is not just any old facility; it’s a celebrated U.S. Olympic and Paralympic training site! This means that Birmingham’s squadron of players will have access to incredible facilities designed to help athletes perform at their very best.
What’s even more exciting about Lakeshore Foundation is its reputation for excellence. They have spent years leading the charge in health promotion, fitness, and sports advocacy for people with disabilities, veterans, and seniors. They even host parasport events! Now, this partnership opens a whole new world for the Squadron, offering a state-of-the-art environment for training.
In a gracious nod to their previous home at Birmingham-Southern College, Squadron General Manager Leslie Claybrook expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support and space the college provided over the past three years. But she made it clear that this new partnership with Lakeshore is a game-changer for the team’s preparations. “We could not be happier to partner with Lakeshore Foundation as this incredible organization becomes our new practice home,” she stated.
Head Coach T.J. Saint also chimed in, sharing his belief that this shift marks a significant upgrade for the team. “This facility gives our players and staff the ability to perform their jobs at the highest of levels,” he mentioned. And with a place where Olympic-level training takes place, it’s easy to see why the Squadron is so excited!
Mark your calendars, fans! The Birmingham Squadron is set to kick off their 2024-25 campaign on Saturday against the Mexico City Capitanes at Legacy Arena. It’s the fourth season for our team in the Magic City, and it looks like they are primed for a fantastic run.
This partnership not only elevates the squadron’s training but also brings a collaborative spirit to the Birmingham community. Residents can take pride in knowing that our local team is practicing at one of the best facilities around, positioning them for success on the court.
So there you have it, Birmingham! Exciting times are ahead as the Squadron prepares for a competitive season like no other. With Lakeshore Foundation backing them, the team is not just aiming for wins, but to set a standard for training and sportsmanship.
Get ready to cheer on our Birmingham Squadron as they embark on this new chapter! Who knows—this could be the season we’ve all been waiting for!
