Birmingham, AL – The 50th anniversary celebration of the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) Concert Hall and Theatre is set to take place on Saturday, October 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This joyous occasion will unfold in the plaza outside the Concert Hall, inviting all members of the community to partake in the festivities. This year marks a significant milestone for the venue, which first opened its doors on October 3, 1974.
Over the decades, the BJCC Concert Hall has hosted a plethora of notable performances from legendary artists such as Ray Charles, Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen, Kirk Franklin, and Kevin Hart. Those who have experienced a show in this cherished venue will certainly have their own fond memories to share.
“This celebration is not just a commemoration of the past but a heartfelt thank you to the generations who have supported us throughout the years,” said Tad Snider, the CEO of the BJCC. “We invite everyone to join us as we honor our shared history and look forward to many more years of bringing outstanding entertainment to Birmingham.”
The event promises to be a lively gathering for all ages, featuring various activities designed to engage and entertain. Families are particularly encouraged to attend as the Birmingham Children’s Theatre will offer free tickets to the first 10 families who visit its tent for the 11 a.m. production of Peter & the Wolf. For those who arrive a little later, a discount code for 25 percent off tickets will be provided as a token of appreciation.
Beyond the immediate festivities, attendees will also have the opportunity to explore the rich offerings of the BJCC, which includes two exhibition halls covering 220,000 square feet for trade shows and exhibitions, along with various entertainment venues such as a concert hall, stadium, and the state’s largest arena.
The BJCC hasn’t just been a hub for the rich history of the past; it is also poised for future growth and expansion. Set to welcome a new 9,380-seat amphitheater, the venue will continue its legacy of providing top-tier entertainment to the Birmingham area, with the amphitheater scheduled to open in the summer of 2025.
The BJCC campus also includes the Uptown Entertainment District, The Westin Birmingham Hotel, and the 757-room Sheraton Birmingham, enhancing the area as a prime destination for entertainment and hospitality.
The festive day on October 12 will be a joyful occasion reflecting the community’s dedication to the arts and culture. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to join the celebration, offering an excellent opportunity to reflect on the venue’s legacy while looking forward to an ambitious future.
