Birmingham Experiences 31st Day of Dry Weather as Rain Chances Remain Low

Birmingham Faces 31st Consecutive Day of Dry Weather

Birmingham – Residents enjoying the lovely fall weather in Birmingham may not realize that today marks the 31st consecutive day without rain. The skies are partly to mostly sunny, and temperatures are holding steady around the 80-degree mark. As we move into the evening, expect fair conditions with lows ranging between 55 and 62 degrees.

What’s Ahead for Weather This Week

Looking ahead to tomorrow, moisture levels are predicted to increase slightly. Some of the high-resolution weather models suggest there could be a few brief, isolated showers scattered across the state. However, the chances of any one area receiving rainfall are only about 10-15%. The forecast for Wednesday calls for a partly sunny day with highs likely in the low 80s.

As we approach Thursday and Friday, a surface front will edge its way into northwest Alabama, providing a better opportunity for measurable rain, particularly north and west of Birmingham. Approximately half an inch of rain is expected around the Shoals area, while the southern and eastern parts of the state may experience little to no precipitation at all. Thursday’s high is again expected to reach into the low 80s, cooling to the upper 70s on Friday.

Weekend and Beyond

During the weekend and into the following week, dry conditions will continue to dominate the forecast. The global weather models are currently inconsistent regarding the chance of rain, especially midweek. It appears a more stable dry pattern is setting in for Birmingham and the surrounding region.

Checking In on the Tropics

40% chance of development in the upcoming week, although current global models do not suggest rapid escalation.

Historical Weather Note

Lastly, reflecting on our weather history, today also marks the anniversary of a significant smog event that took place in Donora, Pennsylvania in 1948. The disaster claimed 20 lives and left around 7,000 others ill, reminding us of the importance of clean air and weather awareness.

Local residents are encouraged to stay informed on weather developments and be prepared for any changes as the week progresses.
