Bessemer Community Gears Up for Habitat for Humanity Home Builders Blitz

Bessemer, Ala. – The city is abuzz with excitement as Habitat for Humanity Greater Birmingham gears up for its 16th annual Home Builders Blitz, running from October 10 through 18. This year, local builders and community members have come together to construct seven new homes to help families in need.

b>Participating builders include several well-known names in the industry, such as AGH Homes, Inc., Bluestone Building, LLC, Compass Home Builders, D.R. Horton, Harris Doyle Homes, Inc., Mareno Construction, LLC, and Taylor Burton Company. These dedicated teams have invested months of planning and preparation to make the event possible, showing their commitment to the community.

In addition to the builders, several generous supporters have stepped forward to donate funds and materials for the project. Key contributors include the PNC Foundation, Cheree and Eric Carlton, Alabama Cabinet Company, Kirkpatrick Concrete, PKS Concrete Pumping Services, and Absolute Concrete. Their support is crucial in ensuring the success of the Home Builders Blitz.

A Chance for Families

The Home Builders Blitz isn’t just about building homes; it’s about changing lives. Charles Moore, the President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Greater Birmingham, emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “These builders and event supporters have planned for months to make their participation possible because they believe it will make a lasting impact for the families and the great city of Bessemer.”

During the event, builders will have the opportunity to meet the families who will be moving into the homes. Moore shared a poignant moment when the builders interacted with future homeowners. “It was a special moment when the builders met the home buyers who shared what they were most looking forward to about owning their home — for some, it’s safety; for others, it’s having their own home which can serve as a strong foundation for their family,” he remarked.

Path to Homeownership

For families who qualify to purchase these homes, the process is not taken lightly. Each family must go through a rigorous qualification process, which includes committing 250 hours of volunteer work and completing 10 hours of financial and homeowner education classes. This thorough training ensures that new homeowners are well-prepared for the responsibilities that come with owning a home.

This year’s Home Builders Blitz aims to not only provide safe and stable housing but also foster a sense of community among the residents. The seven homes being built will stand as a testament to the spirit of collaboration and generosity within Bessemer.

Looking Ahead

As the event approaches, there’s a palpable sense of optimism in Bessemer. The community looks forward to witnessing the transformation that will take place during the Home Builders Blitz, showcasing the profound impact that such initiatives can have on families and neighborhoods. With the hard work of builders, volunteers, and supporters, these homes will soon become places filled with love and warmth.

For those interested in staying updated on the progress, Habitat for Humanity Greater Birmingham encourages community members to stay connected as they embark on this meaningful journey. As the event unfolds over the next week, everyone is reminded of the importance of giving back and the difference that can be made when a community comes together.
