The new spot will be located at the former Rib-It-Up space at 830 First Ave. North. Rib-It-Up was a well-loved establishment that operated for 32 years before closing its doors in July 2023. However, it looks like barbecue lovers won’t have to wait much longer for a new delicious option. Archibald & Woodrow’s BBQ is gearing up to open its doors in late April or early May 2024, much to the delight of many in the area. The excitement in the air is palpable!
Owner Woodrow Washington III, a third-generation BBQ master, shared that he and his team have dreamed about entering the Birmingham market for quite some time. The Archibald & Woodrow tradition goes back to its founders, George and Betty Archibald, who instilled a passion for flavorful barbecue in their family. The restaurant has received numerous accolades over the years, including the title of the area’s best barbecue from readers of The Tuscaloosa News in 2011. It’s no wonder that the legendary University of Alabama football coach, Paul W. “Bear” Bryant, was a loyal customer at the original location, proving that great BBQ is a key part of Alabama culture.
