Man Arrested for Attempted Kidnapping of 4-Year-Old at Fairfield Gas Station

In Jefferson County, Alabama, a 55-year-old man identified as Jimmy Cone, has been arrested for an alleged attempt to kidnap a 4-year-old child at a gas station. The incident unfolded at the Marathon Gas Station, located at 7150 Aaron Aronov Drive, on August 14.

Upon receiving a report of an attempted child abduction, Jefferson County Deputies immediately responded. A preliminary assessment of the situation revealed that the suspect had tried to forcibly remove the child from their mother’s care. Fortunately, the mother successfully retained control of her child, and the suspect subsequently left the establishment.

Lt. Henry Irby, a representative of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, classified the incident as a random attempted kidnapping. Thanks to the description provided by the mother and other bystanders, deputies were able to locate the suspect within two blocks of the gas station. Cone was soon apprehended and taken into custody.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

The 55-year-old man is fronting charges of first-degree kidnapping and child abuse maltreat. He is currently being detained in the Jefferson County Jail as the investigation continues. The 4-year-old child at the center of the incident was promptly checked by Fairfield Fire & Rescue, ensuring the child was in good health despite the traumatic incident.
