Vestavia Hills is gearing up for an exciting event next week as former state representative Steve Flowers is set to speak at the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce luncheon. The event is scheduled for October 8 at the Vestavia Country Club and promises to offer valuable insights into Alabama politics, shaped by Flowers’ extensive experience.
Flowers has spent over two decades sharing his observations on Alabama politics, notably through a weekly column that reaches more than 60 newspapers statewide. His political journey began in his hometown of Troy, where he first stepped into the political arena as a page in the Alabama Legislature at just 12 years old. His passion for politics continued during his time at the University of Alabama, where he graduated in 1974 with a degree in political science, history, and English.
Flowers’ political career gained momentum when he was elected as a state representative from Pike County at the age of 30. His outstanding performance in his first year led to him being recognized as the most outstanding freshman member by Alabama Magazine. Over the course of his 16-year tenure in the Legislature, he received several accolades, including being named the most ethical member in 1988 and most outstanding member in 1992 by his colleagues.
After deciding not to seek re-election in 1998, Flowers transitioned into journalism, where he continued to influence Alabama politics through writing. His book, “Of Goats and Governors: Six Decades of Colorful Alabama Political Stories,” published in 2015, is another testament to his deep engagement with the political landscape of the state.
In addition to his written work, Flowers also hosts a popular public television show titled “Alabama Politics with Steve Flowers,” which airs across the state. His vast knowledge and understanding of state politics make him a sought-after speaker at various events, and the upcoming luncheon is no exception.
The luncheon is scheduled to run from 11:30 AM to 1 PM and will take place at the Vestavia Country Club. For those interested in attending, tickets are available for $25 until October 3. After that date, the price will rise to $30. This is a great opportunity for community members to engage with local politics and hear from a seasoned expert.
For further information or to purchase tickets, attendees can contact the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce at 205-823-5011 or visit their website.
The community is invited to come together for what promises to be an enlightening afternoon. Whether you are a political junkie or just curious about the workings of state government, this event is expected to provide a wealth of information and perspectives on Alabama’s political landscape.
