Exciting New Family Entertainment Center Coming to West Birmingham

West Birmingham residents can look forward to a new recreational hub as the city gears up for the development of a family entertainment center. This $15 million project will be situated on city-owned property near the CrossPlex, and city leaders are optimistic about the benefits it will bring to the community.

Project Details and Timeline

The Birmingham City Council recently approved an ordinance that allows the Public Athletic, Cultural and Entertainment Facilities (PACE) board to act as the fiscal agent for the project. This decision sets the stage for a groundbreaking ceremony, expected to take place within the next month. The center is slated to cover approximately 20,000 square feet and will feature a host of attractions, including a skating rink, jump park, e-sports center, bowling alley, and a food court.

Civic Leaders Weigh In

Mayor Randall L. Woodfin expressed his enthusiasm about the project, stating, “This is a great day for the families of Birmingham. No longer will residents have to look outside our city for a safe, fun place to enjoy with loved ones.” He emphasized that this new center is expected not only to generate new revenue for the area but also bring a fresh energy to the community.

Cornell Wesley, the city’s director of innovation and economic opportunity, elaborated on the significance of the project, noting that it represents “relief and excitement.” He explained that the center has been in planning stages for two years, and its completion will be a major milestone for the west side of Birmingham.

The entire construction process is anticipated to take about 18 months, during which the PACE board will oversee the hiring of contractors and vendors essential to bring this vision to life. Employment opportunities generated by the center are projected to include around 75 new jobs for local residents.

Safety Measures and Community Impact

City officials are also planning to implement a thorough safety plan for the entertainment center, which will include the installation of metal detectors to ensure the safety of all visitors. As part of their commitment to transparency, the city council will receive regular updates about the construction and the safety plans as they develop.

The facility is estimated to generate about $85,000 per month in revenue once operational, a figure that underscores its potential economic impact for the city and local businesses. With the venue being managed by a third-party management company, community leaders are hopeful that the center will become a vibrant spot for families and individuals looking for entertainment, relaxation, and a place to gather.

Looking Ahead

As the community anticipates the breaking ground on this exciting new venue, local families are already imagining the fun they will have at the center. Whether it’s enjoying a day of skating, battling it out in an e-sports tournament, or gathering with friends for a game of bowling, the new entertainment center is shaping up to be an essential addition to West Birmingham.

This project marks an important step forward for Birmingham, as city officials aim to provide more recreational options and community spaces for residents. As updates continue to roll out and construction begins, all eyes will be on this upcoming family fun center and the positive changes it will bring to West Birmingham.
